Olmert’s remained in power because he’s got the ruling coalition, and it’s not too different from the one which was headed by Rabin. Israeli society is deeply divided; one can say, “Israeli society is in its death throes”, or say “Israeli society has always been deeply divided” (and on just on one issue). Blaming Olmert makes as much sense as blaming the “settlers” for the attacks.
