France is set to sign a defence agreement with the United Arab Emirates, a source close to the matter told French daily newspaper Le Monde.
French President Nicolas Sarkozy is arriving in the UAE today after a visit to Qatar.
Le Monde said the defence agreement involves permanent facilities for the French navy in Abu Dhabi, but the information was not confirmed by France nor by the UAE.
Is this a coordinated foreign policy that transpired over BBQ?
“Is this a coordinated foreign policy that transpired over BBQ?”
Yes, and the idea of BBQ is making me hungry.
This reminds me of making defensive pacts in Civilization IV.
You gotta admire the UAE’s choice of military partners. Don’t ya?
France & Britain have always had considerable clout in the region-but since Desert Storm,The Americans have been turning it into their playground.
Currently (2007) major ships in service are:
1 aircraft carrier (Charles de Gaulle),
1 helicopter cruiser (Jeanne d’Arc)
2 amphibious assault ships of the The Mistral type
12 destroyers (officially classified as frigates)
11 frigates
9 corvettes (classified as “aviso”)
4 ballistic missile submarines
6 nuclear attack submarines
I’m not sure about the operational staus of the carrier.
“France & Britain have always had considerable clout in the region-but since Desert Storm,The Americans have been turning it into their playground.”
Do you mean that behind Desert Storm there was a secret long term strategical motivation?
Now, there you got the plot for a bestseller among intellectual circles-which will probably be endorsed By Hugo Chavez on his next visit to the UN!!!
