It takes two to tango, and Michigans primary election is shaping up to be a one partyparty.
While Republican contenders have actively campaigned in Michigan in advance of Tuesdays primary, their Democrat counterparts havent.
In fact, the trio of top Democratic contenders hasnt set foot in Michigan, and only Hillary Clintons name will actually appear on the ballot.
If youre thinking of crossing over, simply to cross over and muddle the waters, dont do that, warns Berrien County Democrat Jess Minx who claims he received an e-mail today from a Republican candidate who was courting Democrat votes.
There is nothing to prevent Democratswho have so little at stakefrom casting primary ballots as Republicans.
If a bunch of Democrats cross over just to create mischief in a Republican primary, at that point in time the primary wont have any credible results, said U.S. Rep. Peter Hoekstra of Michigans 2nd District, it will just be $15 million wasted.
Hoekstra was busy with last minute campaigning in Niles today with former House Speaker Dennis Hastert, on behalf of Mitt Romney.
This vote, they may tell you in the Democratic Party means nothing, said Minx, for you and your children it will mean a lot.
Minx says turnout and integrity will determine whether Michigan becomes a major player in deciding the Presidential races of the future.
As for the present, Michigan faces severe penalties for moving its primary election.
The Democrats stripped Michigan of all its convention delegates, while Republicans stripped half the delegates from Michigan.
If that is the case, then look for Huckabee or McCain to win big ... the RAT’s favorites and that should say a lot to anyone paying attention.
While I like Romney, Hastert is a good part of the reason why the Reps are in the trouble they are - IMO nothing but a profiteer. He does not make me more inclined to vote fro Romney.
Democrats don’t see any reason to vote in the democrat primary because Hillary is pretty much an guaranteed winner so there’s nothing to do but screw with the republican primary.
Personally I’m glad I don’t need a party affiliation to vote but pushing the primary date up was a serious mistake.
I’ve been talking to my raving moon-bat, NEA-steward, sister-in-law.
I predict a primary win for....Ron Paul.
The liberal Democrat Blog KOZ has been urging Dems. to vote for Romney. Their rationale is if Romney wins, it will so confuse the Republican race that the candidates will all be broke by the time they get around to nominating someone.
Given the DUmmy meddling, I suspect the crossovers will vote primarily for McCain and Romney, with some Dim’s going for Ron Paul. This will deflate the numbers for the more serious conservatives.
If I were a Democrat in Michigan, I would crawl over broken glass to cast my vote for UNCOMMITTED. Clinton has stripped them of their franchise in order to rig the primaries to her liking. They should punish her for it.
I wonder if those sign in sheets are then provided to the parties so they can harass their voters more easily?
Well, we can then say the same about Iowa and New Hampshire. As far as the GOP is concerned, we don't have any result we can trust.
Problems in a Michigan primary? You’re JOKING!!!!
We have a separate ballot for democrat and republican and you do have to check a box to receive one or the other. I suspect the parties will have some use for them but it may help prevent democrats from screwing with the GOP primary.
Incidentally mine was the 5th GOP ballot received and I was the 5th voter to vote this morning. My uncle just voted and was the 376th voter to cast a GOP ballot.
"This vote, they may tell you in the Democratic Party means nothing," said Minx, "for you and your children it will mean a lot."The Dims who do show up will either vote "uncommitted" (which means "not for Hillary"), or will cross party lines to vote for either McCain or Ron Paul. I'm going to vote in a few minutes, either for Duncan Hunter, or cross party lines to vote "uncommitted".
Not true. The names on the Democratic ballot will be: Clinton, Kucinich, Mike Gravel, Sen. Chris Dodd, who has dropped out of the race and the ever-popular Uncommitted.
Yes. Those who vote in the GOP primary can expect to receive GOP campaign literature, until the election.
Most employers let people off work to go vote. They’ll be out in droves. There are still employers in MI, right?
“The liberal Democrat Blog KOZ has been urging Dems. to vote for Romney. Their rationale is if Romney wins, it will so confuse the Republican race that the candidates will all be broke by the time they get around to nominating someone.”
Good, I’d rather see Romney win than McCain. A Thompson or Hunter victory would be even better, but I’m beginning to wonder if it’s possible for a real conservative to win.
Question......
Do you think the Obama Edwards supporters will ignore their candidates pleas to vote uncommitted and cross over instead? It would seem they would want the vote to go against Hillary and for their candidate’s request. How are you reading the situation on the ground there?
