Kansas City Mayor refuses to cave into minority and activist hate group demands
Posted on 01/15/2008 12:38:54 PM PST by WyCoKsRepublican
Just aired on local radio: Mayor Mark Funkhouser holds a press conference expressing his regret that the SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference) will not hold it's annual convention in KC in 2008. Under pressure to remove Frances Semler, a 73 year old grandmother, appointed by Mayor Funkhouser to the Board of Parks and Recreation Commission, who is also a member of the Minutemen, he has stood tall and has refused to cave to vicious and racist attacks at him and Ms. Semler.

Google the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. This is another Jessie Jackson type Bolshevik organization. There is NOTHING Christian about this group.

Kudos to this man. I sort of feel like Claude Rains in
"Casablanca". I'm shocked! Shocked to discover there's a politician with a spine.

Is there any way we can support Mayor Funkhouser financially?
Also, how is his brother Marty?

The Commission is a member of the Minutemen? And I'm reasonably sure that Frances is a "grandmother" and a "he"...

I think there is another reason behind this entirely and as much as I don’t like the SCLC (haven’t been useful since the Civil Rights Movement) they could have some justification.
The real reason I think is because Mayor Mark Funkhouser of KC tried to get the city manager, Wayne Cauthen, fired without the approval of the city council (a mayor shouldn’t be able to fire a city council appointee without at least an explanation to the council). Now Wayne was sued by city’s aviation director a few years ago (who was white) for being fired himself for what he claims are racial reasons. That suit was dismissed by a conservative Regan appointee so I tend to think it was the right choice.
Anyway, the Mayor and the aviation director were buddy buddy so the Mayor’s attack against Cauthen was probably a vendetta. Wayne is close with the KC chapter of the SCLC so that’s what got them pissed.
Damn I hate politics.

Drop Mark Funkhouser a line of thanks at mayor@kcmo.org.
I did when La Raza threatened to cancel. Got a note of thanks for my support.

Frances Semler is a 73 year old grandmother, who was appointed to a
NON-PAYING position on the city parks board. When it came out that she was a member of the Minutemen, the race pimps went bat-s**t! And the mayor told them all to "go pound sand." This first came up when La Raza decided that they weren't going to have their racist convention in KC unless she was fired. So they cancelled their plans... And mayor has been vilified every bit as badly as President Bush by the local media, especially the KC Red Star, who went so far as to call organizations around the country to find out what they thought about having a "racist" as a city appointee in a city they were considering for a convention (pretty much trying to scare away conventions).
Mayor Funkhouser is a decent, stand up guy!

That suit was dismissed by a conservative Regan appointee so I tend to think it was the right choice. That's not quite the case. The Mayor didn't try to fire Cauthen. He simply stated that Cauthen's contract wouldn't be extended. "Firing" implies that someone's being kicked out of their job. According to the KC City Charter it's up to the mayor to offer a job to a potential city manager, though it's up to the entire city council to approve it.
