Coburn to Endorse McCain

The McCain camp says their candidate will get a "major endorsement" today in Greenville, South Carolina. MSNBC is reporting that Senator Tom Coburn will endorse John McCain.

Don't get me wrong. It's a solid endorsement, but I don't know if you would consider it a "major endorsement." To be a major endorsement, a person really has to have national name recognition. If you line ten people up, nine out of ten probably couldn't tell you who Coburn is.

Having said that, Coburn is a nice feather in the cap. He's known for shaking up Washington because of his fights against excess federal spending in Washington. In that regard, it's a great fit for the maverick McCain and really a no-brainer. Also, Coburn is a big time social conservative so the fact that a southern senator would come out and support McCain is a big bonus.

We are starting to see a pattern develop here in the Republican nomination fight. McCain is trotting out his Senate buddies to stump for him on the trail. It has the feel of a Washington establishment candidate who is banking on his experience to win the nomination.

Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee go around talking about change and aren't as deeply entrenched with the Washington crowd.

It'll be interesting to see which philosophy and strategy win out.

“Adultery, present wife embezzling money for drugs, etc.”

ha ha. I like how “etc” is thrown in their. “Etc” could be applied to all candidates currently running for the nomination. No one is perfect. Lets stand the candidates against each other on policy rather than personal destruction, and then decide is is looking the best. There are two components to this election for conservatives, 1) the best conservative we can find, and 2) one that can beat the democrat nominee. Let’s keep that in mind. There is no Ronald Reagan out there. He’s dead. Let’s find the next “next”, and move forward. Change is another word for nothin left to lose, (dem mantra).

Steve McQueen was the next one I thought of before I posted.

I don't think Coburn's endorsement of McCain is cause for much concern. Coburn may well believe that McCain is losing and will be back in the Senate...meaner than ever.

Was Coburn the one that McCain was shrieking at during the Amnesty Rebellion? Or was that another Senator?

SC hates McCain. I'm going to enjoy watching a humiliating slap come election day.

Graham's ACU rating...

So why aren't the Democrats in SC fielding a candidate to run against Graham? Ranknfile Repubs there begged their party to provide a primary opponent, but nobody cared to go up against Little Lord Lindsey's war chest. That means there's a lot of enraged SC Repubs ready to vote a moderate Dem into the Senate.

Dirty little secret...Democrats love Lindsey. He's useful to them. Graham's money comes from out of state law firms.

No. My mother died from cancer (she was 42, that was in 1978). If his tears could have, mom would be alive today. :(

My Sister has breast cancer now... she’s going through the same things my mother went through.

Bad joke on my part. So sorry.

Everyday we see new establishment conservative Republicans join the Express.

With Thompson, Huckabee, and Wendell Willke (ie Romney)splitting the votes with strict social conservatives, John should pick up the National defense and fiscal conservatives rather easily in S.C.

Real Conservatives don't get hooked on prescription drugs. Real Conservatives man up and take the pain. Back surgery is no excuse. Real Conservatives are immune to addiction.

Wait until Rush Limbaugh hears about this. He'll...

Nevermind.

Oh really?! You are?! My mother was born there, and I have many cousins living in Lincoln, Omaha and Fremont.

According to wiki, Coburn was born in Laurel. I do not know what part of NE that is.

McRINO will pick up endorsements along the way but in the end will NOT be the nominee. If he is, May the Good Lord Have Mercy on the GOP’s soul. The Great Oz Has Spoken.

Tom Coburn is as major as it gets.

In my eyes, no ones endorsement means more than Coburn’s.

Hmm,. Laurel, Neb. Don't know where that is.

I grew up across the river from Omaha in Iowa. I bled Cornhusker red my whole life. I went to college and lived in Omaha before I met and married the love of my life. He has since taken me across country a few times.

There is no better steak in the world then that of Nebraska and Iowa. Corn fed, Baby!

I get the Times delivered so I am quite aware of the editorial. I am also savvy enough to realize there’s more going on than meets the eye - every editorial page has it’s favorite (and I am smart enough to read between the lines).

If I were to disqualify candidates on the basis of immigration most would be gone. Not only McCain but Rudy, Mitt, and Huck would go - even Fred’s past record is so-so. Hunter is the only one who’s truly stellar on this issue. The important part is McCain has gotten the message and I believe his commitment to secure the border first and deport the 2 million criminal illegals is sincere. I can sleep fine with that. Besides, immigration is an important issue but not the only important issue.

BTW, I don’t think it’s propoer to be dropping stuff about “sons not talking,” etc., unless you are going to provide proof, and even then. There’s really no reason to talk about it.

None of those things will be campaign issues, and if they are they will backfire.

I have never heard any such stories, and I’ve heard about everything negative about McCain. I would challenge this as false. It is a large family which spans two marriages but they are quite close and very supportive of McCain. McCain does have one son fighting in Iraq whom he does not talk about. They are on excellent terms but McCain does not want to draw attention to him, for obvious reasons, or use him for political reasons.

Just a note, in case you all don’t know.

Jon Kyl is in absolutely no way a RINO. That would be an unpardonable speck on his character.

And just for reference, I’ll put in the ACU ratings of all these guys. Be open and transparent when makings serious claims.

Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) 94.0
Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) 91.2
Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) 97.8
Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) 53.9
Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) 74.3
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) 90.6
Sen. Jon Kyl (R-Ariz.) 96.9
Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) 16.8
Sen. Gordon Smith (R-Ore.) 74.5
Sen. Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) 49.9
Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.) 87.0
Sen. John Warner (R-Va.) 80.8

So yeah, there’s one Democrat and two solid RINOs, but there are a number of decent or (like Kyl) great conservatives.
