Rush Limbaugh and Fred Thompson
National Ledger ^ | 01/17/08 | Chris Davis

Posted on 01/17/2008 11:23:00 AM PST by Route66

...You can hear it in Limbaugh’s voice and see it in his face. He badly wants to throw the full weight of conservatism behind that candidate. He so desperately wants to that his teeth probably hurt. He’s waiting, waiting for someone to take the lead. Get noticed. He’s waiting for someone to give him the go ahead to cream the opposition.

You can hear the excitement in Rush’s voice when he talks about the South Carolina primary. It’s “The Passion.” The passion of conservatism emerging when he talks about that primary. Why, you ask? Because, for the first time since the primaries have begun, conservative Republicans will be voting for fellow conservative Republicans...

...Rush Limbaugh believes in conservatism. It’s engrained in his soul. He introduced me to it, and now it’s engrained in my soul. I can recognize it like a tick on a white dog. It’s as obvious as that.

I recognize it in Senator Fred Thompson, and so does Rush Limbaugh. He’s hinted, he’s implied, and he’s even begged conservatives to see what he sees in Fred Thompson. He sees conservatism, the same kind of conservatism he saw in Ronald Reagan. He doesn’t want long, bloated policy. He wants simple, effervescent conservatism for Americans to unfold before their very eyes...

I’d love to see it, but I don’t think it’s going to fly and I really can’t understand why.

We'll see what happens come Super Tuesday. Until then, every little move that someone makes is speculation for who the leader is. On Super Tuesday, we'll actually have conservatives voting for conservatives.

Maybe so, maybe no. Not real thrilled at anything that’s been done this election year by any of them.

Why settle when he can endorse a REAL conservative?

I think Rush's head is with Romney (most winnable) and his heart is with FRed (most conservative).

“If memory serves, I think it was the now famous “Chard” thread. Fred up to 19%”

I missed that thread. Does anyone have a link? It gets quoted often. Must have been a good one.

The original thread title had a typo: "Fred Charding in SC!" Later it was corrected to Charging.

Here's the link: "Charding" thread

Likely, but who knows?

I think if we were coming off a Jimmy Carter presidency Fred would fare well against Hillary or Obama. I don’t see that happening now.

Yes, nicker is doing just that, as are all the loopy "stalking horse for McCain" conspiracy theorists. The choice of actual, legitimage policy issues on which they can challenge Thompson is so thin that they can only insult and malign the man's honor. They are cowards.

>> Romney-I could see myself holding my nose and voting for him, but he seems so phony and carefully crafted. I don’t know exactly where he stands.

That’s the most accurate assessment of Romney that I’ve seen on here. I cannot site doctrinal problems with Romney ... he is simply so manufactured and rehearsed that I get the feeling he’s telling me what I want to hear, rather than what he actually believes.

Y'all have hit it right on the head with Mitt. My gut instinct is that if Mitt were to nail down the nomination, that his mad dash to the left would make our heads spin.

I don’t think you are correct. I think the writer is right. I keep wishing Rush would make his favorite candidate (Thompson) known but because he has said he won’t yet, he doesn’t.

Me as well. Great rebuttle.

If Thompson didn’t want to be president he wouldn’t put himself out there as a candidate. Running for president is not some kind of hobby.

Check out the Fred Gets Feisty thread, and read the article in Newsweek. The article mentions the group doing the push polling, and with whom the group is affiliated.

Yup. It looks like Huckabee is fighting dirty. I didn’t see him on the news last night denouncing the tactics of the group, which is where he should have been if he opposed it.

He must endorse him TODAY. It would make the evening cable news networks tonight and probably help Fred tremendously tomorrow.

Don’t forget that in NH, Osama-Obama led Hillary by about 12 percentage points; she won by 2%. The polls were off 14 percentage points.
In MI, the GOP race between Mac and Mitt was “too close to call”. Mitt won by 9%.
Polls, schmolls. GO FRED; KEEP RUNNING ‘TIL THE LAST VOTE IS CAST SATURDAY NIGHT.

Reference your tagline:

“Romney supported the right of homosexuals to be Scout Masters in 1994”.

I guess that makes him a “Tolerant Conservative”.

Just another reason for me to vote 3rd Party when that two-faced, pandering, self-serving, lying, punk, hypocrite gets the nomination.

Regarding tolerance:

Revelations 2

To the Church in Thyatira

18"To the angel of the church in Thyatira write: These are the words of the Son of God, whose eyes are like blazing fire and whose feet are like burnished bronze. 19I know your deeds, your love and faith, your service and perseverance, and that you are now doing more than you did at first. 20Nevertheless, I have this against you: You tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess. By her teaching she misleads my servants into sexual immorality and the eating of food sacrificed to idols. 21I have given her time to repent of her immorality, but she is unwilling. 22So I will cast her on a bed of suffering, and I will make those who commit adultery with her suffer intensely, unless they repent of her ways. 23I will strike her children dead. Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and minds, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds. 24Now I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, to you who do not hold to her teaching and have not learned Satan's so-called deep secrets (I will not impose any other burden on you): 25Only hold on to what you have until I come. 26To him who overcomes and does my will to the end, I will give authority over the nations—
