>> Romney-I could see myself holding my nose and voting for him, but he seems so phony and carefully crafted. I don’t know exactly where he stands.

That’s the most accurate assessment of Romney that I’ve seen on here. I cannot site doctrinal problems with Romney ... he is simply so manufactured and rehearsed that I get the feeling he’s telling me what I want to hear, rather than what he actually believes.

I could hold my nose and vote for Romney. He's easily the most polished of all the candidates.

He impresses me as a good manager. A good VP. Someone that you give a big project to and say "Handle this", then have him come back in a few months with Grade A material.

But leader of the Free World? I think the jury is still out.

Here's how I see it: Romney is talking all conservative now but governed as a liberal. That means one of two things. He either pandered to Massachusetts liberals and is telling the rest of the country what he's really like, or he's really a Massachusetts liberal and is pandering to the whole country to get the GOP nod. Problem is, I have no way of knowing which is the truth.

It’s not just the carefully-crafted phoniness, it’s that his apparent default perspective is to figure out a government-led solution to any problem, and that ends up being a technocrat’s big-government solution.

The problem is that 4 of our top 5 candidates (I’d put Rudy and of course Huck and McCain in there as well) have real flaws for that three-legged conservative stool AND in electability. Polls show voters think differently. They hear the MSM and think the others are more electable, but I believe they are misinformed.

You mean like the difference between a professional business presentation and the off-the-cuff commentary by some sluff off the street? Yeah, one looks much more polished, and yeah, I might believe the bum more.

Favors the assault weapons ban?

Favors government mandated universal healthcare?

Even the newly manufactured Romney hasn't flipped to the conservative side on these issues.

Mitt Romney is manufactured and rehearsed? How about he’s just “polished and has a firm grip on the issues”? I would support Romney over McCain or Huckabee with no reservations because the guy is a first class businessman, who has created jobs, built companies, understands economics, and comes from the private sector and is smart as a whip.

Romney’s head and shoulders above most of these professional politicians. If anyone seems to be pandering are McCain and the Huckster. I don’t think we need to go down the list of their great achievements in raising taxes, authoring bills that infringe on our freedoms, and making deals with the likes of Ted Kennedy and Joe Lieberman.

Y'all have hit it right on the head with Mitt. My gut instinct is that if Mitt were to nail down the nomination, that his mad dash to the left would make our heads spin.
