Why neither John McCain nor Mike Huckabee can possibly be our choice
The Collins Report ^ | Jan. 17, 2008 | John F. Allen

As conservatives our choice for president has to be Fred Thompson. But this is only half of the equation. Both McCain and Huckabee are both very suspect on the issue of illegal aliens. Here are some very sobering facts about the damage we have already suffered from our de facto open borders policy.

Nearly One Million Sex Crimes have been committed by illegal immigrants in the United States. http://www.drdsk.com/

Illegal aliens in the United States have a crime rate that’s two and a half times that of white non-illegal aliens. In particular, their children, are going to make a huge additional crime problem in the US.

3 million dollars a day are spent to incarcerate illegal aliens. 30% percent of all Federal Prison inmates are illegal aliens.

90 billion dollars a year are spent on illegal aliens for welfare & social services by the American taxpayers. 200 billion dollars a year in suppressed American wages are caused by the illegal aliens.

12 billion dollars a year [on] school education for children here illegally and they cannot speak a word of English! 17 billion a year.. for education for the American-born children of illegal aliens, known as anchor babies.

http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0606/12/ldt.01.html

During .. 2005 … 4 to 10 million illegals [snuck in as many as] 19,500… from Terrorist Countries [bringing] millions of pounds of drugs ….The National Policy Institute estimated that the total cost of mass deportation would be between 206 and 230 billion dollars or an average cost of between 41 and 46 billion dollars annually over a five year period.

http://.nationalpolicyinstitute.org/publications.php?=deportation

2.2 billion dollars a year are spent on food assistance programs such as food stamps, WIC, and free school lunches for illegal aliens. 2.5 billion dollars a year are spent on Medicaid for illegal aliens

South Carolina GOP voters please keep these things in mind. Fred Thompson is the best answer to the illegal alien invasion.

I cannot believe that these two are leading in SC.
This disgrace portends the end of the GOP as a major player in conservative politics.

McCain and Huckabee? I would rather see hillary! elected.

True. But we need Huck to win SC. Just like Michigan, we find ourselves in the position of rooting for SOMEONE to beat McCain. And Huck’s the only one in position to do that.

If he loses SC, McCain will be out of money and momentum. Florida will be almost impossible for him. And then we can deal with Huck...he’s not going anywhere anyway.

[Yes, I love Fred, but he’s not in position to keep McCain from winning in SC. And I say that as a FredHead.]

Make that two of us.

I just plain refuse to vote for either one of these people.

I guess the GOP plans to lose this year.

I wont vote for either of them. This is a disaster waiting to happen......Republicans lose big time from local and state to congress.

Interesting points.

It is a shame that we are forced into these convolutions.

A real decent conservative should be able to sweep this GOP primary without all of this nonsense, but that may just be my myopic view of the American electorate.

IMO, not an auspicious sign for the future of the GOP.

SC voters need therapy. If they vote for McLame or Huckster, the end of the GOP is in site. Who wants a liberal republican when they can get a real socialist in Hillary or Obama.

Huckabee has a new understanding -- of how plausible a 180 degree turn is, in the company he keeps (Romney, Giuliani). If Romney can switch on abortion at his age, and Giuliani on guns after all this time...Huckabee can certainly make people forget how readily he "forgives" criminals and refrains from punishing them in ways that impact their children. (As every way does.)

Shame on him, but also on us if we make his mistake, if we listen to his professions of conservatism, if we infer a changed heart and commute our own judgment of him -- judgment based soundly on his record.

No clemency for Huckabee!

Sad. Hunter has been at the top of the heap on this issue for many many years, and Huck comes out with this big platitude, so in one day everybody just forgets his past? Forgiveness is one thing, but forget? Not me.

Maybe so, but he’s got a snowball’s chance in Hades of winning the nomination. Why people waste their breath on the “also-rans” is beyond me.

The Democrats and all too many Republicans have a "fix" for this problem:

1. Make it a "hate crime" to mention that illegal aliens do things that are, um, illegal.
2. Encourage anchor babies so the illegal population explodes, while at the same time encourage homosexuality, abortion and euthanasia for American citizens.
3. Make sure that the illegal aliens' children go to crappy schools that teach in Spanish (as opposed to crappy schools that teach in English), so that these children will be ghettoized.
4. Export jobs. Have the taxpayers subsidize businesses that move their production out of the U.S. Create many rules (in the name of "fairness" and "the environment") that cripple American industry.
5. Teach relativism -- claim that child rape and honor killings are rich cultural expressions of diversity that we must accept if not yet celebrate. Make it a hate crime to speak out against child abuse.
6. Make it illegal for people to defend themselves against criminals.
7. In the name of campaign finance reform, make discussion and dissent illegal and have a Soviet-style system where only incumbents are on the ballot.
8. Discourage things like nuclear power that would help with the energy problem. Instead, make "environmental" laws that will cripple the economy while wasting scarce resources.
9. As the economy tanks, make populist schemes to redistribute the dwindling wealth.

Agree, but I still would hate to have to see the Huckster win.

BTW, Bill Bennett ripped him a new one this morning. I caught just the last of his listing of points against Huckabee.

If the people voting for Huckabee to get rid of McCain in SC would vote for Fred Thompson instead, we could get rid of BOTH McCain and Huckabee.

I'll bet there are people voting for McCain to get rid of Huckabee also. They should also vote for Fred.

McCain and Huckabee are running as a tag team, so a victory for either is a victory for the team.

I will not vote for any of the Republican candidates for President other than Thompson or Hunter in either the primary or the general.

Or the general.

Today, I am ashamed of my vote for Bush on 2004. My vote for Bush in 2000, not so much, because he did some good conservative things in his first term. His 2nd term has been a disaster of mammoth proportions.

But if anyone but Thompson or Hunter wins the pubbie nom this time around, I will leave the Presidential Electors lines EMPTY.

EMPTY.

That's a big IF. Sadly, it isn't going to happen. Right now, Fred is helping McCain by splitting the "right wing" vote with Huck. (I'm NOT saying this is deliberate...no Fred/McCain conspiracy theories please!).

I would never have anticipated this, but if I were voting tomorrow I think I'd have to go with Huck. Simply to beat McCain.

[Yes, I love Fred, but he’s not in position to keep McCain from winning in SC. And I say that as a FredHead.]

The polls have been off by more than Fred trails by in SC.

I also find it hard to believe that McCain is really as strong there as the polls would indicate.

Even if McCain wins South Carolina, which is doubtful, he will still lag far behind in the delegate counts, and he is running out of states where he does well.

If Huckabee wins South Carolina and Fred does poorly, then Fred is probably done. Who will likely pick up those supporters? Probably not McCain. Probably some for Romney and some for Huckabee. That might very well put us in a position where Huckabee might actually come out of Super Tuesday in front.

I suggest voting for who you want to win. Huckabee scares me just as much as McCain. I'm not real fond of Romney either, but if Fred drops out, he's starting to look like the least evil of the remaining viable candidates.

For heaven’s sake, don’t be ridiculous.

Think two words: Roberts. Alito.

Then consider if a President Kerry had that same opportunity. Two more liberal slots on SCOTUS for the rest of our lives. It makes me cringe.

Criticize Bush all you like, but those two appointments alone make his 2004 re-election worthwhile.

FYI

Mike Huckabee yesterday signed the Americans for Better Immigration “No Amnesty” pledge. Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA and president of Americans for Better Immigration, said in a press release “Every candidate claims to oppose amnesty, but few define amnesty the way most Americans do. I applaud Gov. Huckabee for defining amnesty correctly, and for pledging to fully enforce laws that would take away the jobs and benefits magnets that draw illegal aliens here - and that keep them here.”

Personally, I think The Huckster is a LIAR. He will just say that penalties and making the folks go back home IS NOT AMNESTY!!
