The Huckser likes the Mexican Flag even better than the Confederate Flag, judging by his record as governor.

*headdesk*

I’m as loyal a Southerner as you’ll find and a proud former eight-year resident of South Carolina. I’m proud of helping vote David Weaseley out of office after his great flag flip-flop. I supported the folks who wanted to keep the flag on the Statehouse grounds in some form, even while believing that flying on top of the dome over the seat of government wasn’t the place for it, not least because it was the wrong flag (a Naval Jack)!

But dredging the flag issue back up to attack McQueeg with is, IMO, stupid. And supporting Huckabee simply because he’s going after McCain on the flag issue is, IMO, stupider. There’s a lot bigger things at stake here, inside and outside of South Carolina. Am I wrong here?

I'm fully-convinced this Huckabee will say absolutely anything to get elected.

After which, I'm sure, it's "time for a re-think on a few things."

There is just something so wrong on so many levels about South Carolina getting to pick who our nominee will be, all based upon the candidates’ attitudes about a flag of a nation that hasn’t existed for over 140 years. I mean seriously, Huckleberry Mike is pathetic on two-thirds of the issues out there, but we is gonna vote fer him, cuz he lahks tha fla-yeg?

Sounds like most of the candidates, quite frankly.

Moose....the more Huck talks, the more he makes RuPaul look prescient on his nutty comments.

Paul quoted the “fascism will come to America on the cross draped in the flag” and everyone slapped their foreheads.

We’ve been seeing the leftists bringing their enviro-fascism all along.

But now this huckster is bringing a populist-fascist attitude that, well, in order to define it I’d have to violate Godwin’s law.

I think Huck knew McCain had a weak position on the flag and it might resonate with Southerners. I wouldn't make it the centerpiece of my campaign though.

We have more pressing issues right now with an economy teetering on recession, outsourcing manufacturing, ongoing war, and immigration.

Exactly. But why are there so many "conservatives" who can't see through this buffoon?

Agreed. As in most things Fred Thompson has it right-- (a) The SC Confederate Flag issue ain't no biggie as a national issue in its own right and (b) in any event, it is purely a matter for the state to decide, not the feds.

I do find three points to be interesting:

McQueeg once again shows his colors by going out of his way to cast an issue in the language of the enemies of conservatism, as in "rascist" symbol for the flag, "benfits the rich" for the Bush Tax cuts and similar anti-GOP rhetoric on many other issues,

Huckster shows his quickness to pander to the emotions of the less thoughtful voters,

It is also of interest that there is little chance of Huck alienating minorities since I don't think many will be involved in the GOP primary anyway.

I wonder if the flaggers know that David Beasley is running Huckabee’s SC campaign?

Because "conservatives" have split into camps with narrowed interests with each camp focusing more on the trees rather than the forest?

well, you're HALF-wrong anyway. (but that is BETTER than NEVER being right.)

the reason that EVERY candidates stand on the CSA flag is IMPORTANT is that the dixie flag is a LOCAL/state/regional issue that is IMPORTANT to dixie AND how one answers the question about "how do you feel about the Confederate flag??" tells us MUCH about:

1. whether the candidate is sensitive to local/regional issues (every locality/state/region has "issues of local importance".) AND

2. whether the candidate thinks that he/she should "have a stance on" those local issues.

as for me, it tells me that "mr mqueeg" is a person who would use FEDERAL power either for/against local groups, issues, etc., which is a MISUSE of power. i wouldn't vote for such a person, period. end of story.
