Thompson*s supporters made him into something he was not and the media played along with it, teasing and baiting, knowing he wasn*t going to make it. What was Hunter supposed to do, say oh, well I*ll drop out and let old Fred have his dance in the sun...? I dont know what you lmean by *his own motives*.He had the interests of this country in mind and he recognised the danger of the GOP fracturing because of the slide to the left that has gone on since at least *88.

Your said all along that there weren’t enough Hunter supporters to matter to anybody! Which is it? I don’t think you want Thompson, I think you’re happy about how this is going.
Isn't this like saying Mike Gravel derailed the Joe Biden campaign? None of them ever had a shot. I mean add the 5 people who voted for Hunter to Thompson's numbers and it wouldn't have made a difference. Fred just got in too late and was behind the eight ball when it came to $$ and infrastructure. Now we got to hope for a VP shot.
It is silly to blame Duncan Hunter for Fred Thompson’s situation. In earlier polls Fred Thompson was tied with Rudy Giuliani with 25 to 30 % each. But what happened? Do you think Duncan Hunter did something to him that caused him to fall in the minds of the electorate? No, think back. He had a bit of a run in with Dr. James Dobson. Instead of trying to work things out, he decided he did not need Dobson and was the darling of the anti-Christian set for not kissing up. He won a great battle in their minds, but lost the war because all the Evangelicals who thought he might be their champion, fled. He fell to the mid-teens back in the pack with the rest of the also rans where he has been ever since.
The Evangelicals chose Huckabee as their champion and now he polls higher than Thompson. To blame Thompson’s situation on Hunter means either you have a very poor memory or you just have some personal problem with him. I don’t know which it is, but Hunter is the last person you can blame for Thompson’s current poor showing.
