What you’re saying means, as it looks to me, is that Huckleberry becomes irrelevant, Fred’s supporters abandon him, and Giuliani resurges in a “stop McCain” movement, splitting his vote and parting the sea for Mitt Romney to win.

“The only good news is that there’s a possibility that the same thing could happen on the other side....”

Don’t count on that. It’s only a two person race there and they really don’t have much in the way of ideological differences. They’re not arguing about who can screw the country over better; they’re arguing about which of them could make us smile while they did it.

“The death of the Republican Party if McLame is the nominee”

I keep hearing this on talk radio but there isn’t any evidence for this. McCain will get the Socon vote, the Hawks and is ok with the fiscons. There has been a shift to the left with the dims so McCain could pick up some independents as well.

Giuliani would lose all of the socons(except Pat Robertson). He also has a type of authoritarian personality that turns off a lot of moderates.

That's true. This could all be just the run-up to a Hillary-Obama ticket.

2008 is shaping up to be the stuff of nightmares.

McCain is a loose cannon. A real psychopath. That’s a deal breaker for me.

Who do you think did the most damage to W’s presidency? Rudy Guiliani or John McCain? Look at from the point of view of which one caused the President to expend political capital needlessly?

I dunno about that Hillary/Obama ticket. What would Obama be able to offer Hillary? If she gets the nod, she’ll get everyone that would have voted for him anyway. She’d probably take Richardson for his foreign affairs knowledge, but don’t put it past her to put old Bill on the ticket, if she’s allowed. *shudder*

You're right. He stated it slightly incorrectly. It will be the death of the conservative movement as a viable force within the GOP. Which means the death of the movement until such time as a viable third party can be formed...best case 20 years.

It's a depressing time to be a conservative. We have to push for Mitt or Rudy and hope for the best. McCain believes in Global Warming...that tells you everything you need to know about him.

Hank

Talk radio says Giuliani is a true conservative and McCain isn't.

Not the talk radio I listen to.

You're kidding, right? McCain would be Reagan compared to those two Northeastern Yankee liberals. Have you seen what the GOP looks like in NYC and MA? Those two are party splitters who would guarantee a viable 3rd party candidacy in the general election.

So what’s left, really?
Take the fight to the convention and decide it there.

That’s where I’ve been saying it will end.
But only if Fred stays in, his supporters stand by him, and all of us redouble our efforts. Fred especially.

The GOP was NEVER viable in NYC or MASS. Precisely why I give those guys a break in looking at their records.

Both of them, though, have voiced skepticism to some extent about the legitimacy of man-made-global-warming. McCain has bought into it hook, line, and sinker.

I’m here to tell you this Big Lie is the greaters threat to human freedom today. We need someone with the courage to stand up to the environmentalists...McCain has NEVER shown that inclination.

Hank

Look on the bright side, we can use global warming as an excuse to build nuclear power plants. I'm not too worried about the environmentalists because I like riding a bike to work and we already have lots of bike lanes here in Portland.

Well, Romney crushed McCain in Michigan, and he really crushed McCain in Nevada, which is one of McCain’s “next-door” states.

Yup! Time for Romney to withdraw ;-)

He’s pro-business, anti-regulation, and most imporantly of all, hasn’t been suckered by the Global Warming crowd.

Rudy’s record of fighting the ACLU is what I like the best. Bring on the Gestapo.
