McCain Is A Train Wreck For The GOP
America Talks ^ | 1/20/08 | David Zublick

Posted on 01/20/2008 1:58:52 PM PST by AmericaTalks

John McCain's clinching of the primaries i n New Hampshire and South Carolina indicates that the GOP has serious problems. McCain is the least conservative of all of the Republican contenders, yet somehow his message appears to be resonating with disenfranchised voters.

McCain's win puts him in a position to trounce all comers in the Florida primary January 29th and Super Tuesday on February 5th. But his lack of the values conservatives espouse could spell disaster for Republicans who want to make sure that a true alternative to the liberal rhetoric of Hillary and Obama is offered.

Until now, there has been no frontrunner in the GOP race, with Huckabee winning the Iowa caucuses, Romney winning lower-profile Wyoming, Michigan and Nevada primaries, and McCain taking New Hampshire and now South Carolina.

Now admittedly Romney has the highest delegate count so far, but things could quickly change in the days ahead, which could spell trouble for those of us who wanted almost anyone but McCain.

How much longer Mike Huckabee will be able to hold on is uncertain. But Huckabee was counting on a clear victory from conservative Christians which he didn't get, largely from the undecideds. He's still a contender, but he is beginning to falter. Depending on how Giuliani does in Florida, his campaign could tank, and Fred Thompson is now on life support.

Which leaves us with McCain. He is a true war hero, and a fine man. But he is not a fiscal conservative, not a hawk when it comes to foreign policy, not a friend of those opposed to illegal immigration, and his campaign finance reform bill soured many in his party to anything else he might have to say.

Should McCain survive and become the nominee of the GOP, he will have truly risen from the dead. But like the old saying goes, his light at the end of the tunnel could be the headlights of an oncoming train wreck which might propel a democrat into the White House this November.

"I don’t usually vote for anyone that calls me names. I don’t forget either. Guess McCain will have to be satisfied with my ‘virtual vote’."

LOL! Good idea! The RINOs can count on my virtual vote if any of them win the GOP nomination.

Horseflop. Hillary or Obama will whip McCain like a rented mule, you can make book on it. NcNasty is hardly a better candidate than either one of them, at any rate. He is economically ignorant, just as those two are. He is even more of a Beltway insider than they are. He is so rooted in DC-think that I really think he would pursue domesticate policies identical to theirs, including opening the southern border to every 3d-world n’er-do-well who can crawl, run, or swim across it. Aside from the WOT, which may be drawing to a close anyway, we will have interchangable libs if McNasty, Her Thighness, or the Crypto Muslim are elected,

I understand all that... but don’t you think the MSM will have Obama’s back, and position any negative campaigning as racist? Hillary’s is not getting away with it, and she’s one of them! They’ll simply slaughter the GOP. It would be a very ugly year, and inflict huge damage on the GOP.
*************************************************
I think Obama’s a real long shot ,,, sure the media will spin things but the bottom line is that black voters overwhelmingly vote RAT ... and the RAT base is poor, stupid and has racist tendancies ,, the only evidence you need is observing how they categorize everybody and everything... Obama will have just as hard a time getting white RAT votes as McCain will have getting our votes.

Yeah, I voted. Fred.

I am under no illusions about Fred, especially after seeing how Harris was treated, but Fred is the only candidate that I will support.

I now see Romney ads on TV along with Rudy.

For those of you who spent most of your waking moments peeing on Mitt's tent, youre getting what you deserve.

This is so much B.S.

So you're saying that because I chose to vote for a real conservative, Fred Thompson, that it will be my fault that the rest of the country votes for John McCain?

I am so sick of people using this generalization. "America gets what it deserves" or "You keep voting these people into office", "If we can't do any better", well you know what I'll be damned. How about you put the blame where it belongs. For instance, when the GOP lost in 2006 people of high and mighty thought on FR blamed folks who either voted against or just didn't vote for the Republicans instead of blaming the GOP for their actions. I'm tired of being blamed for the party's failure just by voting my conscience. I'm ready for a new party.

“Remember, he is old. A lot will depend on who he picks as his veep.”

How so? It is irrelevant who is his VP. McCain makes the decisions, his VP is only for window dressing (attending funerals etc). Are you seriously saying that his VP can convince McCain to make policy changes, such as reject Amnesty?

No way.

Also, if Pres. McCain retires in 4 years (after passing all major liberal policy goals, including amnesty, closing Gitmo, appointing liberal judges, raising taxes), his VP hardly is in a good shape against a conservative Governor.

I hear you, but I’ve got to say that I’d vote for Hillary over McInsane to preserve the GOP for the future. If McInsane won, he would destroy the party. Meanwhile, GO MITT!!!

"None of the other guys can beat the beast."

Don't bet on that. If Hillary gets the nomination she will have to answer questions that are not soft balls. And we have seen how she chokes up when confronted with the truth.

I doubt the msm has dredged up all the scandals from NYC and Rudy’s tenure there with his wife, mistress and hidden expense accounts. From the looks of things Mitt has the cleanest record on the scandal front.

I support Thompson but I don't despise McCain. I just don't want him to be president.

While McCain is less conservative than Fred Thompson, he's definitely more conservative than Giuliani, Romney or Huckabee.

Wow, I can't believe a Freeper would say something like this... McCain is a TRAITOR to our cause, on MANY occasions. He has proven time and again that he is no way and no how a conservative.

When Fred drops out (yes, I said when), Romney is gonna be our only hope of having a (seemingly) true conservative in the White House. I certainly hope FR doesn't turn into a McCain supporting site. I am sick enough as it is from seeing the RINOs do so well this time around.

By the way, if you truly believe what you said, then you seriously need to change your name. "Reagan Man" fits you about as well as it fits McCain.

I'm thinking I'll write in John Galt.

We could get creative with the write-ins...

If a million votes went to John Galt, or even a a few hundred thousand, it would get noticed.

Any of the present GOP contenders is a train wreck for the GOP except for Fred Thompson, but Fred Thompson is probably the next GOP contender to drop out in the near future!
