One day after a disappointing second place finish in South Carolina, Mike Huckabee got back in the saddle Sunday to party at the ranch of action movie icon Chuck Norris, and repeated a claim by his campaign chairman that Fred Thompson was his biggest barrier to defeating John McCain in the Palmetto State.
Huckabee came a close second to McCain in the seven-man Republican presidential line-up, 33-30 percent. But Thompson took third place with 16 percent, and exit polls showed many of Huckabees and Thompsons supporters shared the same priorities on issues like values, immigration and taxes.
We obviously wanted and we honestly thought we would win. The fact of Fred Thompsons being in the race took away some votes that we most likely had. I believe every analyst has looked at it that way, Huckabee said. The snow pretty much not only froze the streets of the Greenville-Spartanburg area, but the votes came to a stop when it started snowing. That was an area where we had really looked forward to get a heavy and significant vote margin.

Very well said, and that goes for a lot of the comments in this thread.
I tentatively do.
everyone I knew was for Fred.....i’m not sure now ...i know folks who now have favorites for everybody except Paul.
I’d say Freepers will break for Romney
but I think some will go for Huckabee and even Queeg despite all the teeth gnashing
it’s very difficult to say
I only know one Huckabee supporter here in Nashville...he was for Fred before
I miss him already.
Two elections ago...2000, The Reformed party nominee was Pat Buchannan, who IIRC, is Roman Catholic.
Buchannan accomplished his mission, which was to destroy the Reform Party as a political threat. He spent lots of money, and made certain that he didn't get a high enough percentage to have the party qualify for federal matching funds.
It was worth it to listen to Ross Perot almost choke on bile when he endoursed George W. Bush, LOL.
I get some strange looks when I refuse to join in the bashing of W. that often goes on around this state. I too believe he will be like Eisenhower who was the brunt of jokes when in office but rises in the rankings of history with each passing year. I expect that one year of any of the current Democratic contenders would have even die-hard Dems begging to go back into the Bushes.
We? As in “True Supporters of Our Troops?” We’ll go the same place Fred Thompson goes, I expect. McCain.
Coming back to this board after a long time away, I see many who look on a term of Hillary Clinton as a better lesson for the nation than four or eight years of John McCain. Irrelevant. The mood of the country is still tilted left, so the Democratic superdelegates will probably get their female one-termer. However, we need a moderate like Senator McCain to keep it close so she doesn’t have big congressional coattails. And we need a McCain to be constantly pressuring her to be less of a defeatist. It will be a close run thing (reference, anyone?), but with enough pressure she may just decline to lose a war on her watch.
When at war, winning the war comes first. McCain knows that. So does Fred Thompson, who I greatly respect. And at a proper point, Thompson will plainly face the situation we find ourselves in, and act as a patriot.
Huckabee is a definite fraud. I wonder if he has been endorsed by Rick Warren?
So far, Warren has only invited diehard Stalinists to his church....
I haven’t heard him endorse anyone yet.
“Thats where Im at, too.
I looked at the Constitution Party but their idea of the greatest candidate in the world to head their party is.....(I couldnt believe it).....Ron Paul.”
Paul?!!?
I am FLOORED with this. I seriously considered Peroutka in the last election and really appreciated their party’s platform. I ddn’t even think they had a candidate so I never looked up their website. Scratch the Constitution Party then.
My candidate Hunter dropped his bid the other night. At least, when he gave his speech, he didn’t blame anybody for his lack of campaign traction. He was very gracious and he took the blame alone for not gaining recognition. He’s still a winner to me even if he is out of the race.
Prayers continue for this race.
Didn’t Pat actually split the Reformed Party, and he was the unofficial wing of it, while the floating buddha was in charge of the other half? It was something weird, my memory says, that even got legal for a bit.
pretty much.

ha ha!
Doesn’t the Huckster remind you of the bad president Logan from Season 5 of 24?
I would be happy if he would just go away.
It’s embarrassing to think he represents mainstream Christianity these days.
EXACTLY!
Fox News is just following da man Rupert Murdoch loves (because he won’t confront him about his sin) Rick Warren who also has pretty much endorsed Huckabee.

Considering it's how he and his favorite pastor Rick Warren run their lives and ministries, yep I agree!
See post #119 for the link to the story about the down and dirty fliers.
Rick Warren! Endorsed Huckabee!?
That STUNNING!
Who is Rick Warren?
Hank
