While I was in SC demonstrating outside a McCain event, I confronted Senator Tom Coburn on his endorsement of McCain. Coburn has been very good on immigration. He said that he has the personal promise from McCain that he will not support amnesty. I told him that such a promise is worthless given McCain's record. Coburn responded that if McCain violated his promise, he would fight "tooth and nail" to stop any amnesty bill in the Senate. I replied that the Senate passed an amnesty bill in 2006 in a Rep controlled Senate and now the Dems are in charge.

Many of McCain's endorsements from conservatives like Coburn and Thune come from McCain calling in his chips from his efforts supporting their campaigns.

Since they only this past week recieved their absentee ballots, Floridians could not have voted absentee prior to Giuliani’s dismal performances.

Early voting in Florida starts 15 days before election day, or in this case 1/14/08. I voted for Fred on Saturday.

It’s hilarious to watch even though it’s sickening in its results.

Everything the lemmings on this site are saying, everything that will play out, was all predicted by Romney’s pollsters/consultants/advisors. In a way it proves the amazing competence of our business leadership.

Romney knew if he spent the money, lied for long enough, and positioned himself as the only alternative he would have decent shot at the nomination. He proves EVERYTHING that is wrong with politics. Everyone complains but the lemmings do the same thing every time. The poll created slick politician is really what people want because that’s what they always choose. People would rather be lied to to their face than hear a truth they don’t like 100%. What a failure. I may just vote for Hillary to F the system.

He knows now if Hillary is the nominee he has a chance that perhaps a scandal or some unforseen event can get him the presidency. He knows there is only a miniscule chance of this but hey, how many people ever get even a tiny shot at being president and anything can happen. He doesn’t care about the party or stopping liberals so the fact that he is almost a sure loss doesn;t bother him. He’s rather take the chance for himself.

Actions speak louder than words with McCain. I too am surprised Coburn would be be taken in by McCain's oily promise. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer to believe McCain's straight talk about immigration reform in the halls of congress as he fought tooth and nail for McCain-Kennedy rather than believing what he is saying in a political campaign.

Romney is not for socialized medicine. He doesn’t want the government to foot 100% of the bill for America’s medical care. What his plan entails is: Making sure the free-market maintains a role in health care by using private insurance companies to insure all Americans. This will ensure that costs are controlled because private companies will keep an eye on their bottom lines.

The only government outlay would be to subsidize insurance premiums for those Americans that cannot afford the premium. This could actually save the U.S. money because right now, the government is paying for the health care of these people anyway without the cost controls that private insurance would impose. When the government gets a bill from a provider for one of these people, it is most likely going to pay it outright without any analysis of what the services were and how much the claim is for. A private insurance company is: #1 going to already have contracted rates with the providers that marks the maximum the provider is going to get paid, and #2 the privite insurer will be analyzing the claim during processing to determine if any unnessary services were performed. So, by utilizing private insurers, health care costs will be kept under control and the private sector can do this more efficiently than the government.

To call Romney’s plan socialistic is just plain wrong. The government will not be covering 100% of healthcare for everyone, nor will the gov’t be covering 100% of the premiums for everyone. The gov’t will be taking the money it is already spending on healthcare for the poorest Americans and instead of paying providers directly, it will be paying just for the insurance premiums to private insurers. The gov’t will probably save money by doing this and the free-market will be allowed to do what it does best: control costs.

Yeah, but it doesn't matter whether Rudy finishes 2nd or 3rd or 4th in FL. He won't be able to continue, which means McCain gets to work on NY and NJ and he's ahead or narrowly behind to Rudy in both places. McCain is leading in MD. McCain is leading in CT. He's leading in CA. He's leading in VT. He's going to start to pile up wins once 2/5 gets here.

Florida is a "Winner take all" State. 1st place is the only position that matters.

My decision is based on the fact that Romney cannot win. What don’t you people understand??? He CANNOT win

Opinions are like assholes...

you are way too emotional and do not back up what you say with facts.

Romney’s plan doesn’t force small businesses to provide health insurance coverage. Small businesses could still opt out of providing that benefit. Romney’s plan puts the responsibility on the individual to obtain health insurance and if his work doesn’t provide group coverage then the individual will get individual coverage for himself and his family. The government even negotiated with insurance companies to set up lower group rates for these individual plans to keep them affordable. Trust me, Romney is not interested in burdening businesses, he wants individual responsibility.

Again, this coming from a McQueeg supporter (or more accurately, an election-season sign-up purporting to support McQueeg).

I may just vote for Hillary

A disgruntled conservative (who probably voted for Bush twice) and a veteran who's going to leave the party in disgust and go vote for Hillary. Haven't heard that one since the last seminar caller I heard on C-SPAN...

Sorry, while McCain clearly was tortured during his imprisonment, that doesn’t make him an expert on the war on terror. His support for ACLU trials for terrorists leaves him out in left field. Unlike McCain, I am in favor of waterboarding if it will save American lives.

1. What Romney says, as has been proven in the past is meaningless and proves nothing about what he actually believes he will do.

We know what McCain will do about the 12 to 20 million illegals. It is called amnesty. We have his record and his words. Romney did obtain 287 [g] authority for state law enforcement officials and he was publicly on record while governor against in-stat tuition aid for illegals.

2. Even if he is better on the issues it doesn’t matter because a vote for him is a vote for Hillary/Obama and their agenda, not his. If we nominate an unelectable candidate we are electing the enemy by default.

We lose by default if McCain is the nominee. He shares much of the same agenda as Hillary/Obama. Why should the majority of the GOP support someone who has not supported the GOP agenda? Do you reward a maverick because the MSM deems him the most electable? Do we stand for anything as a party except to get elected? I don't share your view that Romney is unelectable.

15-20 states is a guestimate taking into account what a 45% showing roughly equates to. The extact number is meaningless, we are talking a massive landslide. He will lose swaths of the south.

Gore received more votes than Bush in 2000. We don't elect Presidents that way. The electoral college is how Presidents are elected. There is no way that Hillary or Obama takes the South. Bill Clinton never received more than 50% of the vote even when running against people like Bob Dole.

Now you are raising the guesstimate to 20 states. LOL. Romney will have a shot at Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, states that Kerry won in 2004. He will take many of the states in the West with larger margins than Bush, e.g., Colorado, Arizona, and Nevada where immigration is a big issue and have sizeable Mormon populations. Romney has many political assets that will provide a clear contrast between him and Hilllary/Obama. Until both parties have actual nominess, all of these MSM polls are meaningless. They are meant to shape and influence the primaries and you seem to have fallen into their trap.

You can bet that the Clinton attack machine will go after the Keating Five scandal, McCain's age, his health problems, etc. If you think that McCain can win without the support of the Rep base, you are living in a fantasy world. The Dems are already saying that McCain is the strongest candidate for the Reps. Doesn't that give you some pause?

Liberal judges—McCain led the leftist fight in thwarting conservative nominees. We have five vacancies just in the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals due to McCain’s orchestration of the “Gang of Fourteen”

Amnesty—McCain Co-authored the Kennedy-McCain Amnesty bill. No mention of securing the border. You can’t get much more amnesty minded than McCain

Tax increases—McCain actually voted and campaigned against Bush’s tax cuts

Military—McCain said John Kerry was “not weak on defense” during the 2004 election.

I don’t see any difference between McCain and Hillary except that McCain is an insidious traitor and Hillary is a known foe. McCain can’t win the election because he is too old, too liberal, too turkey necked, and too crazy. It will show in the debates between the two candidates. Hillary will stomp McCain like a cockroach.

Yes, Romney is the most conservative amongst those with realistic chance of winning the nomination.

Why would it give him pause? He signed up four months ago (with an overtly military sounding name, no less) to push the same message, and he hasn't deviated from it one iota (except to flirt with the Dems other favorite Republican, the Huckster). And pretty much every post is a thinly-veiled variation of the same seminar-caller talking points we've been hearing for years.

The guy's a transparent fraud.

Don’t bet anything on JC being on the ticket. It wouldn’t help anything anyway - JC’s not from a swing state, and blacks aren’t going to vote Republican because Obama’s going to be the Dem nominee. (He’ll be the next President, too, if McInsane gets the nomination.)
