USC Takes Left Turn

by: Don Irvine, January 18, 2008

In the 2000 election cycle USC professors and staff members donated slightly more money to George Bush’s presidential campaign than to Al Gore. What a difference eight years make.

According to a report by the Washington, D.C.-based Center for Responsive Politics for the current election cycle have given a total of $66,250 to presidential candidates with 98 percent of that amount going to Democrats making the university one of the most pro-democratic party campuses in the nation.

This has led USC political science professor Anthony Kammas to question the role of professors and elections and whether or not the university can maintain an appearance of being unbiased.

“It worries me that there's this much weight on one side. They're basically casting a vote with their dollars against the Republicans,” Kammas told the Daily Trojan . “You want to be able to say, ‘Hey, it doesn't matter who I think is best. I want to know who you think is best.’”

This bias towards the Democrats though isn’t limited to USC. In 2000, Democratic candidates received 61 percent of the donations from the educrats. In 2004 that number rose to 78 percent and is currently at 76 percent for the current campaign.

Journalism professor Judy Muller told the Trojan that she was enthusiastic about donating to Sen. Barack Obama's campaign after her career in the news industry prevented her from doing so because of bias concerns. She told the paper that she doesn’t proselytize her politics in her class

It’s just a matter of degrees, but almost all the college campus’s are “left”. Tenured professor’s dominated by hippies from the 60’s.

Did the professors change? If it’s the same people who have shifted to the Dems, then that’s a reflection of dissatisfaction with Bush/Repubs. If they’ve had turn over and brought in a bunch of new liberal blood, that’s more of a problem to me than the former.

Even at our little community college here, the left-wing bias from the professors is terrible. I actually had a professor compare Henry VIII and George W. Bush, ie: "Henry VIII was a poor leader because he was obsessed with getting a son... JUST LIKE BUSH AND HIS OBSESSION WITH HIS WAR!"

I wanted to puke right there... but kept my tongue. I need an A in this class, LOL.

University of Southern California. But I understand there’s some little community college in South Carolina that stole the acronym... ;)

Obambi will be supported by virtually the entire black community and also by virtually every white who feels guilt over the actions of 150 and more years ago; and there are a hell of a lot of folks who hold such guilt.

I feel no guilt at all for the actions of someone 150 years ago, no matter who they were. I am responsible for my own actions, and no one else’s. Thus, if I am to feel any guilt, it would be for my own actions. And I have no guilty feelings at all.

In the most conservative per capita county in the nation, Orange County, CA, the most common college gear on older people (alums or football fans) is USC. So even if the profs are all communists, there certainly is a large conservative following for the school.

That would be Utah Valley State University and Columbia Southern University. There is a pretender in South Carolina, but they began as South Carolina College, disbanded during the Civil War, and changed their name that fit USC after the real one on the west coast. There is only ONE USC, and it’s in Los Angeles.

I have a law degree from USC. Several years ago, at a reception for the new Dean, I spoke to the Dean, at which time he marveled at the diversity of the USC faculty. He, of course, was speaking of race, gender and sexual orientation. I asked him how many Republicans were on the faculty and he could not think of one.

... he sums up the trend by saying that the Bush administration’s eight-year run probably has more to do with the increased giving to Democrats than anything else. He believes that the professors feel that they need to “correct the course we've been on”

That is the result of an old leftists tactic. They are always attacking the opponent rather than proposing solutions of their own. The progandists media trumpets the leftists (Democrat) point of view constantly. Then they do phony polls of the public they have influenced (like jury nullification) and declare "The American People think ...."

The demonization of Bush for 8 years now leads to the Democrat call for "change" and the sheep act like sheep.
