ST. SIMONS ISLAND - Glynn County Commissioner Cap Fendig announced Tuesday his formal withdrawal from the presidential race.
A long-shot candidate, Fendig ran in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina but was kept off the ballot in his home state.
"We entered this race realistic about the chance for success," Fendig said in a prepared release, "but for opportunity to happen, you have to place yourself in a position of opportunity."
Every news article or online report about him mentioned his omission from the Georgia Republican ballot delivering "a very serious blow for credibility outside Georgia," he said.
In spite of barely showing up in results in any early primaries and caucuses, Fendig said he had no regrets.
"I want to thank the many loyal supporters who stood behind us," he said. "We made many new friends and my wife [Catherine] was a great trouper to go along each day and work hard on the campaign trail."
Fendig said earlier he had sold off his businesses to finance his campaign and kept only his St. Simons home.
On his way out, Fendig cautioned that Americans need to realize the government is headed toward insolvency and that taxes will be raised, benefits cut and security will be compromised without a major shift in fiscal policy.

Thanks Cap. It was fun.

This guy would have had more success if he had started his campaign on FR
Personally I think we should replace legislatures with people chosen at random (adult citizens) and give them no more than 3 weeks per year in session, next year a whole new group will take over
Never heard of him, but just watched some video of him. Yes, we need good men like that in government. We are in trouble as a nation when conservative citizens of such conviction don’t have a chance. The best choices have dropped out - and look at what we are left to choose from!
How did it come to this?!
