Six months ago, Bill Clinton seemed to be settling comfortably into roles befitting a silver-maned former president: statesman, philanthropist, philosopher-king. Now he has put all that high-mindedness on hold — maybe it was never such a great fit, after all — to co-star in wife Hil-lary's campaign as a coldblooded political hit man.
No, scratch the "coldblooded" part. At times, in his attempt to cut Barack Obama down to size, Bill Clinton has been red-faced with anger; his rhetoric about voter suppression and a great big "fairy tale" has been way over the top. This doesn't look and sound like mere politics. It seems awfully personal.
Obama's candidacy not only threatens to obliterate the dream of a Clinton Restoration. It also fundamentally calls into question the Bill Clinton legacy by making it seem . . . not really such a big deal.
That, I believe, is the unforgivable insult. The Clintons picked up on this slight well before Obama made it explicit with his observation that Ronald Reagan had "changed the trajectory of America in a way that Richard Nixon did not and in a way that Bill Clinton did not."
Let's take a moment to consider that remark. Whether or not it was advisable for Obama to play the role of presidential historian in the midst of a no-holds-barred contest for the Democratic nomination, it's hard to argue with what he said.

He's got the conservative talking points down. Pro reagan, anti hillary....and everyone knows republicans don't really give a sh*t about abortion, so they can overlook the bone his liberal credentials.
This writer just gave Clinton another “Lewinsky”...
hope it makes sense now.
Best change tack a bit there, or there will be trouble on the plantation.
The slaves are rumbling.
I didn’t read the whole article. Did Obama say something negative about dresses from the Gap?
Obama should say that as a black man he is thankful for all That Bill Clinton did for him which is....(crickets chirping)
Although if one listens to Hillary closely Obama is experienced ... he defended of all things a ‘slum lord’.
Really, the Clintons make Richard Nixon look tame.
Yes, he's a glib, charming fellow...but then, most guys of his ilk are, aren't they?
Both political parties are eating themselves. I think that 2008 will be a watershed that leads to new thinking on both sides.
Oh, Really?
THE DAMAGE DONE TO THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY by Bill Clinton was the worst experienced under any incumbent president since Grover Cleveland. Here are some of the stats:
- GOP seats gained in House after Clinton became president: 48
- GOP seats gained in Senate after Clinton became president: 8
- GOP governorships gained after Clinton became president: 11
- GOP state legislative seats gained since Clinton became president: 1,254 as of 1998
- State legislatures taken over by GOP after Clinton became president: 9
- Democrat officeholders who became Republicans since Clinton became president: 439 as of 1998
- Republican officeholders who became Democrats: 3
CLINTON'S SCANDALS, going far beyond Monica Lewinski, were a major liability for Al Gore in 2000, far more so than Ralph Nader. According to the 2000 exits polls:
- 60% of voters disapproved of Clinton as a person
- 59% - including some who approved of him - disliked him
- 68% said he would go down in the history books for his scandals rather than for his leadership
- 44% thought the Clinton scandals were important or somewhat important. In contrast, only 28% thought Bush's drunk driving arrest was important or somewhat important.
- 15% of those who had voted for Clinton in 1996 voted for Bush in 2000.
that's his bit for the bill clinton fans.
BJ is simply demonstrating classic Narcissistic Personality Disorder behavior. If someone dares to question BJ’s sense of grandeur, the response will be of rage. Even this rage is calculated to evoke a response.
It would a sad day for this pair to regain the White House. If so, there had better be a detailed inventory of the furniture, paintings, silverware, and rugs before they return.
aw.
I hope that even the MTV crowd has grown up!
Isn’t he slime!!!!
