Bill Clinton says race shouldn't be an issue in the Democratic presidential campaign. Well, then perhaps he should stop talking about it.
The caustic politics of race and gender took center stage in the Democratic race Wednesday as a combative Clinton campaigned on behalf of his wife, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, and lashed out at the rival Barack Obama campaign and the media for focusing on race.
But it was Clinton himself who dished on the topic when he told an audience in Charleston that he was proud of the Democratic Party for having a woman and a black candidate. In response to a question from a crowd member who asked about "race-baiting" by the media, Clinton said he understands why Obama is drawing support among blacks, who are expected to comprise at least half the primary turnout.
"As far as I can tell, neither Senator Obama nor Hillary have lost votes because of their race or gender. They are getting votes, to be sure, because of their race or gender _ that's why people tell me Hillary doesn't have a chance of winning here," the former president said.

One Clinton supporter openly played the race card.
After fielding several questions from a crowd of about 200 in Kingstree, Bill Clinton called on a black man standing off to the side of the small stage. The man identified himself as a pastor and told Clinton that "black America is voting for Obama because he's black."
The man also said Democrats are in a "dangerous position" because if Obama wins the nomination, voters will put a Republican in the White House.
"They're not ready to for a black president," the man said.
Several black audience members nodded their heads. Several said in unison, "That's right!"

How much longer before this not-race-baiting race-baiting, and not-racism racism hits the evening newscasts??
I guess Alan Keyes is actually a white man. Who knew?
Well, that was mighty white of him.
Several black audience members nodded their heads. Several said in unison, "That's right!".."
..Anyway we like it on the plantation!....That's right!
Does it ever occur to them that the way to a black President is to nominate one and go for it?
“How much longer before this not-race-baiting race-baiting, and not-racism racism hits the evening newscasts??”
It depends on what the definition of not-race-baiting race-baiting is.
“The reason I think Hillary is more electable is not race, it’s this: If there is a security crisis somewhere between now and the election, the fact that Hillary” has served on the Senate Armed Services Committee and has visited more than 80 nations “will make it much harder for them to spook people by saying she can’t handle a national security crisis,” Clinton said.”
Why on earth did he use the word “spook”? Why not “rattle” or “upset”?
Sorry, but that was a “macaca” moment right there by Bildo.
Latent racism against blacks lies right under the surface with the Clintons.
There are basically two camps of liberals now: the racists voting for Hillary and the sexists voting for Obama. How do they look at themselves in the mirror?
“Sorry, but that was a macaca moment right there by Bildo.”
Only REPUBLICANS have “macaca” moments.
Democrats have been granted immunity from this by the largely Gay media today...
Hillary won’t be spooked because she has already done the necessary spade work.
“There are basically two camps of liberals now:
the racists voting for Hillary and the sexists voting for Obama.”
Don’t you just love it when Democrats are drowning in thier own politicly-correct bovine excrement???
The pastor who raised the specter of racism later refused to identify himself to an Associated Press reporter. He was escorted by a security guard who shooed away strangers. How convenient is it that an anonymous black pastor raises racism as an issue and then gets an escort away from reporters? They've switched from planting questioners in the audience to planting pastors.
This is about the only thing that can save the republicans in Nov. Though the dems always seem to get in line when it’s time for an election, I’m thinking (hoping???) this may be the time enough’s enough.
the problem is you assume the republicans are actually smart
I don’t think that’s going to work this time.
A LOT of leftist Democrats are seeing what is happening, and are already realizing it’s probably over for them in 2008.
If Hillary is the Nominee, they can already see what’s coming, and will sit it out...
Check out this KOS thread, especially the comments about halfway down.
Basically, the average voter is pretty ignorant of issues; dems bribe them to get their vote, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. A racial rift is a LONG time coming within the dem party. The timing couldn’t be better— someone on our side better be figuring out a way to play it to our advantage (maybe by pointing out we actually want people to do well in life, as opposed to the dems wanting to sustain a lifetime of sycophants to suck at the govt teat).
“Dems dont seem to remember what happens from one week to the next, which is why the clintons (and other dems) can get away with what they do “
If it works in the primaries, its only because the Democratic opponents won’t touch all of the 1990’s Clinton scandals.
So she can attack Obama for doing legal work on a legitimate business deal, all the while she herself did legal work on Castle Grande, a fraudulent scheme to loot an S&L.
But Democrats were so brainwashed to regurgitate that the Whitewater investigations were just politics that a Democrat can’t bring up Castle Grande or cattle futures or the Clintons’ business partnership with convicted felons Jim and Susan MacDouglal.
What's a black woman voter to do?
One candidate is half-black; the other half-woman.
