TAMPA, Fla. At the end of the Republican presidential debate in New Hampshire this month, when the Democrats joined the candidates on stage, Mitt Romney found himself momentarily alone as his counterparts mingled, looking around a bit stiffly for a companion.
The moment was emblematic of a broader reality that has helped shape the Republican contest and could take center stage again on Thursday at a debate in Florida. Within the small circle of contenders, Mr. Romney has become the most disliked.
With so much attention recently on the sniping between Senators Hillary Rodham Clinton and Barack Obama on the Democratic side, the almost visceral scorn directed at Mr. Romney by his rivals has been overshadowed.
Never get into a wrestling match with a pig, Senator John McCain said in New Hampshire this month after reporters asked him about Mr. Romney. You both get dirty, and the pig likes it.
Mike Huckabees pugilistic campaign chairman, Ed Rollins, appeared to stop just short of threatening Mr. Romney with physical violence at one point.
"What I have to do is make sure that my anger with a guy like Romney, whose teeth I want to knock out, doesnt get in the way of my thought process, Mr. Rollins said.

Another sign that Romney will win.
I grow really tired of hearing this “nobody likes Romney” canard. Who cares if politicians that aren’t supported by the majority of primary voters don’t like the candidate who is supported by the majority of primary voters.
Surprises me. I would have thought that McCain was the one hated worst.
(Thanks for the post. Don’t worry about the “Already Posted” people.)
McCain aides were positively gleeful last week as they watched replays aboard their campaign bus of a heated back and forth between Mr. Romney and an Associated Press reporter who challenged an assertion about the influence of lobbyists in his campaign.
Heated back and forth? An outright lie! Romney kept his cool when most would have "lost it."
Majority? Do you mean plurality? There is a difference.
Point taken. Who could expect more than a plurality with so many candidates running? How about the most vote totals?
Even if I become a minority of one, I still won’t vote for Romney, here’s just one reason:

He may not be perfect, but he's better than the others who remain.
I hope Romney wins, but if Romney does win, it is because he started early with each states grassroots, was organized, and was building a base before any of the other candidates had given it a thought. Romney brings something to the table that the other candidates do not have, a great business sense, and organization, that will serve this country well at this juncture of our American History.
I truly Believe that there is an “angel in the whirlwind that guides this country”. President G. W. Bush was the man our country needed on Sept 11, 2001. And I do believe that the next leader the country needs is Mitt Romney.
Have a ball. Yawn.
In case you haven't noticed, more than half of FR plans to support Mitt. Stuff that up your hat
It's good someone caught it. The Libbies don't want Romney as the nominee (another good reason to support him).
When one reads this article one must consider the source.
In other words, they think the important qualification for a President is to have spent decades spinning one's wheels in political bureaucracies (while not making much money), rather than having spent decades doing one's part to make the economy hum (and making a lot of money in the process).
The real story here is McCain’s anger when anyone challenges him. Remember that he hated Bush in 2000 and held onto the grudge after the election. Now he hates Romney. On top of that, he whines to the MSM about how unfairly he is treated and they pick up the ball and carry it for him, so he can appear to be above it all. How will he react when the Clinton attack maching comes after him? Will the MSM still have his back? This is not the nominee we need.
“Surprises me. I would have thought that McCain was the one hated worst.”
Right, he is! But the MSM LOVES McCain. His nomination would insure a Hillary win. The MSM want McCain to win Florida and will do everything they can to make that happen.
I hope that he doesn't get asked a ridiculous question tonight based on a made-up-of-whole-cloth front page pictured NYT article. They just make something up and then play on it forever after....like his "back and forth" with the AP guy. Only the AP guy was out of line, but people who only see the MSM will never know that.
Something that came to mind as I read this. I do not doubt the facts being reported by this article. The article seems to be well sourced.
Note that Romney has been attacked by some in the so-called religious right for not being Christian. And yet this article points out that Romney still considers all the candidates to be his friends. It concludes:
>Mr. Romney shrugged off any tension with his rivals when asked about it. You know, he said, in this process, people have a real battle for success. But I consider these guys friends.
So who acting more like Christ demanded on the Sermon on the Mount:
>But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift.
Ironic.
