Methodist Bishop on Global Warming, Earth Abuse, Wants Action
Virginia Conference, United Methodist Church, website ^ | Jan 2008 | Bishop Charlene Kammerer, United Methodist Church

Posted on 01/25/2008 9:16:23 AM PST by mbarker12474

"Grace Notes" for February 2008, by United Methodist Church Bishop Charlene Kammerer:

Why we should care about God’s creation

The psalmist has declared in Psalm 8: "When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars that you have established; what are human beings that you are mindful of them, mortals that you care for them? Yet you have made them a little lower than God, and crowned them with glory and honor. You have given them dominion over the works of your hands; you have put all things under their feet..."

My Christian faith and The United Methodist Church have taught me that all of creation belongs to the Lord God Almighty. Because we are all created in the image of God, who created a beautiful earth and heavens beyond what we can see, we are given responsibility for the ways in which we use the earth, or abuse the creation. We are to value and conserve water, air, soil, minerals, energy resources, plants, animal life, and space. We are called to be good stewards of God’s creation, not because of what benefit it will be to us, but because it belongs to God.

If anyone is in doubt of how we humans have abused the gift of the earth, all you have to do is read Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. This book, complete with stunning photographs, charts, and compelling evidence of global warming, invites us to seriously consider again our stewardship responsibilities. [Editor’s note: A film of the same name was released the summer of 2006 and is now available on DVD.]

Gore states at the close of his book, "Now it is up to us to use our democracy and our God-given ability to reason with one another about our future and make moral choices to change the policies and behaviors that would, if continued, leave a degraded, diminished, and hostile planet for our children and grandchildren — and for humankind."

The earth is the Lord’s. We are children of God. We are called to love and protect the earth and all of creation. God is counting on us — will we be found wanting?

The Mainline denominations are just groupings of socialist pacifism which the DNC avers. Biblical injuctions quoted by many of these leaders reflect their political beliefs not necessarily what God wants. We are stewards of the earth but free enterprise, freedom in general, historical preservation, care for abused animals, being for pure water and air doesn’t have to succeed by using socialism as the answer. Common sense, real conservation ideas, stopping the dependence on government can still be chronicled as an issue which Pubs, conservs of all 3 wings can unite and advocate these principles to the voting public in general.

God says that the Sun will turn into a Red Giant and incinerate the Inner Planets. Go ahead, try to do something about it.

Ever read THIS?

I've used it to make a few friends who'd partaken of the Global Warming Kool-Aid squirm a bit.

This entire fraud regarding global warming can be explained and refuted by reading the first chapter of Romans. It not only explains the worship of "mother earth', but also homosexuality, the environmental wackos, the animal rights activists etc.

Using God's Word is the best defense in exposing this secular religion.

"For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God, or give thanks; but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing to be wise, they became fools,
and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.

Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, that their bodies might be dishonored among them.

For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen."
Romans 1:18-25

Yes, these humanists worship animals, mother earth and themselves...there is no worship of God or Jesus Christ. It is so disappointing to see, not only some of the Republican candidates fall for these lies, but "religious" leaders as well.

The devil knows the Bible better than any of us. He’s warm, friendly, compassionate. One of the nicest fellas you’ll ever meet.

The story mentions two Latin phrases. The first, AD MAJOREM DEI GLORIUM, means "For the greater glory of God."

LOL!

Even the best can occasionally get "little details" wrong. Not that I will think anything less of ACC as a result, but the last word in that latin phrase is Gloriam. Having "lived" with Jesuits more years than I care to admit, there is no doubt about that in my universe.

First off, what part of the pastoral epistles does this woman and those of her faith not understand?
Paul tells us in his letter to Timothy what a woman’s role in the church should be,

(1Timothy 2:11-12 NKJV)
(“A woman must quietly receive instruction with entire submissiveness.
But I do not allow a woman to teach or exercise authority over a man, but to remain quiet.“)

Then we can also add what he wrote to the Corinthians in his first letter to them.

(1Corinthians 14:34-37 NKJV)
(Let your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but they are to be submissive, as the law also says. And if they want to learn something, let them ask their own husbands at home; for it is shameful for women to speak in church.
Or did the word of God come originally from you? Or was it you only that it reached? If anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things which I write to you are the commandments of the Lord. But if anyone is ignorant, let him be ignorant.)

There is a place for women to teach, but it is not with men. Paul points out to that this rule only applies to “a woman’s authority over a man”. All one has to do is read what he wrote to Titus and you will see that there is a place for women to teach.

(Titus 2:3-5 NKJV)
(Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good,so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored)

Why is it people become Christians, but then want to change what is required. Take me, rake me, but I will not change from my stance on this. Too many men, women and children have died to defend the Name and teachings of Jesus Christ. Just read Fox’s Book of Martyrs and you all will see that we stand on the shoulders of giants. I am just a spoke in the wheel, I if those like this woman’s followers want to change the rules they will be put in their place in the end. These words of Christ Himself should ring loudly in their heads’

(Matthew 7:22-23 NKJV)
(”Not everyone who says to Me, “Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’)

It has been many moons since I last gave my opinion on anything here, but I have been living a rebirth in my soul. But this is just wrong in so many ways, that I had to speak up. By the way, those who think “Global Warming is wrong and nothing but junk science”, I agree 100%
Only GOD can destroy this planet, and one day He will destroy this planet,

(2 Peter 3:12 NASB)
(looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?)

May God bless America and those who fear Him,
Those who do not, I pray that God have mercy upon their soul
My peace has been said

ROTFLOL...thanks for a great laugh...my side hurts!

Well, I live close to Boulder and believe me, there are plenty of them there.
There are SOME conservatives still here in Colorado, but we are being invaded by many liberals from California so our beautiful state is turning more and more blue every election!

All the answers are in the Bible, we just have to search for them. ;o)

Never give up...I had to break with my primarily presbyterian background due to politics and frankly sad and inadequate churches in the area, but there are other ones out there, and worst comes to worst, put church on hold for awhile. Fellowship with Christians but sometimes coming back into a church family with a fresh new perspective helps!

GOOD LUCK!

Yup...I had a nursing journal (AJN) show up and an article was in there about how evil the Iraq war is and Bush is the devil...and how it’s the DUTY of ALL nurses to stand up to Bush/Cheney...blah blah blah...

In the next issue it was CLEAR she was in the minority.

Pastors stick to pastoring, actors stick to acting, nurses stick to nursing...

I appreciate you all for your thoughtful postings! Some of the things I read about [different] churches make me feel bad for the way they see and do things.

Our church comes downtown to feed the ‘homeless.’ They stay around the park across the street from my office building. The take the free food and then panhandle for money for cigarettes and beer or wine.

How does our church ‘help?’

Of course, you are right. It is not our church’s fault that their goodness is used other than intended [to free up beer and smokes money.]

Some homeless really can have attitudes. I had a guy yell at me, “got change for a penny?” and all the other homeless laughed at me.

Remember, God looks at your heart to do that which he calls you to do.
Feeding the poor is an honorably Christian thing to do. We are not judged on what others do, but on what we do.

While our works do not save us, it is our works that shows others we are followers of Christ. Let the homeless that take the free food and then go get drunk do what they do. But do not allow their actions effect what Christ calls for you to do.

My brother-in-law told me once that he was not tithing his church anymore because he did not agree with what they did with the money.

I told him that tithing is what we do for obedience towards God. They will answer to Him for their stewardship of the money they receive. But I told him that God looks to his heart and calls for us to give back Him that which He was blessed with.
Remember what Christ said to Peter when he asked,

(Matthew 8:21-22)
“Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?”
Jesus said to him,
“I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.”

We will all be judged and rewarded for our own deeds, just as those who deny Christ will be judged for each and every one of their transgressions.

Your church is doing the right thing, pray for those bums taking advantage, because even if only one soul is saved in all the years they feed them, that is one less soul Satan has.

Finally I will leave you with this message from Matthew

(Matthew 25:34-40)
(Then the King will say to those on His right hand, “Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, “Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’)

God Bless you
