Mark Steyn: First, they came for Piglet

My favorite headline of the year so far comes from the Daily Mail in Britain:

"Government Renames Islamic Terrorism As anti-Islamic Activity' To Woo Muslims."

Her Majesty's government is not alone in feeling it's not always helpful to link Islam and the, ah, various unpleasantnesses with suicide bombers and whatnot. Even in his cowboy Crusader heyday, President Bush liked to cool down the crowd with a lot of religion-of-peace stuff. But the British have now decided that kind of mealy-mouthed "respect" is no longer sufficient.

So, henceforth, any terrorism perpetrated by persons of an Islamic persuasion will be designated "anti-Islamic activity." Britain's Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith, unveiled the new brand name in a speech a few days ago. "There is nothing Islamic about the wish to terrorize, nothing Islamic about plotting murder, pain and grief," she told her audience. "Indeed, if anything, these actions are anti-Islamic."

Well, yes, one sort of sees what she means. Killing thousands of people in Manhattan skyscrapers in the name of Islam does, among a certain narrow-minded type of person, give Islam a bad name, and thus could be said to be "anti-Islamic" – in the same way that the Luftwaffe raining down death and destruction on Londoners during the Blitz was an "anti-German activity."

But I don't recall even Neville Chamberlain explaining, as if to a 5-year-old, that there is nothing German about the wish to terrorize and invade, and that this is entirely at odds with the core German values of sitting around eating huge sausages in beer gardens while wearing lederhosen.

“Bush is weak on this problem”

I just hope the Gelding Old Party gets a testicles and spine implant before the convention and nominates a true blue conservative this time for POTUS.

1/2009 won’t come soon enough for me.

It's about time Europe resumed the "anti-Islamic activity" they used to be so good at, so long ago...

“Our ancestors didn’t risk life & limb to emigrate to America just so a bunch of camel jockeys could come here, terrorize our women & children and make hamburger out of our families.”

How come so much of America doesn’t know this?????

Because so much of America has been taught that our ancestors were cruel oppressors who stole this land from the peaceful natives even as we were exterminating them.

Oh, and just for good measure, our ancestors' descendants are today poisoning the water, polluting the atmosphere and the sullying the entire planet -- just to make sure we kill off all the fuzzy animals while Exxon and Halliburton profit.

When you are taught the left's version of American History is your heritage, is it no surprise that one might not value it?

“Either we are at war. Or we aren’t.”

As one source states: “The military is at war. America is at the mall.”

Actually, I’m more inclined to think kids aren’t being taught *anyone’s* side of history! They’re being taught of their “rights” ; they’re being taught how much they’re *entitled* to; they’re being taught that rap music is culture, that hunger and devastation is equated with not owning the latest piece of electronics, that *overwork* means walking because they don’t have wheels on their sneakers. Patriotism isn’t taught, thus it is not important. The sacrifices so many hundreds of thousands have made (and continue to make) to give us our freedom and to maintain it isn’t important. The American Flag is for burning, and God is for lawsuits to remove Him from everything in sight (while we become *sensitive* to the false god of the animals who attacked us). America has lost its fundamental values, and the priorities have all changed. A kid doesn’t learn the most from political parties — left or right. A kid’s biggest influence comes from home — mom and/or dad — home is where you learn priorities, values, sense of country, faith in God, honor in defending your country, pride in being an American. But the current lack of this will come to a screeching halt in the near future because we will get hit again. Our attitudes make us vulnerable, not our military. We have long ago left our patriotism, humility, unity, behind in the dust of toys, rights, and you-owe-me. We have lost the America we once loved. And when we get hit again, the flags will once again be flying from car windows, the tears will flow, the shock will knock us for (another) loop. But for how long this time? A month? A week?

Today, we see Britain walking off with Porky Pig into the sunset, announcing, “Th-th-th-th-th-that’s all folks!”

I beg to differ. Porky, unlike Britain, wouldn't go down without a fight!

If the Dems win, the PC effort to sway citizens to just love the peaceful Islamos will go full force. As with Hiss, the Dems will have traitors among us and we will be so cowed that to complain will mean isolation for those type of Americans. It is now the time to speak, write, demand that jihadists be eliminated from not only our nation but the entire world and do it with a full court press not wussiness. The public today is very much in the leftist urge to ‘just can’t we all get along’ and the horrors of jihadist destruction already fades as we worry about Heath Ledger!

Well it may be “all of the above” but victory has never been easy or cheap and our liberty is always worth the sacrifices necessary to retain it. Too bad that anti-American cowards enjoy the same liberties and freedoms, maybe we can change that...

In other news today: Black will now be known as white.
Up will now be known as down.
"is" will continue to be a verb who's meaning may be changed to suit you(provided of course you're a stinkin' clinton.)

Re: 17

“Either we are at war. Or we aren’t.”

We aren’t then. Not with Islam at any rate...

You are correct.
We are not at war with Islam, Islam is at war with us.*[1]
The culture of 'PC' dictates that we keep our heads inserted into the ground and ignore the fact that there is a cult loose that requires its adherents to 'convert', enslave, or destroy - and we deem it proper to label said death cult as a legitimate 'religion'.
Western society has chosen a suicide pact rather than suffer the 'shame' of being accused of insensitivity or intolerance.

* [1] In the Koran, Allah orders all Muslims to terrorize non-Muslims. "Strike terror in the hearts of the enemies of God and your enemies." (Surah 8:60) "Fight them and God will punish them by your hands." (Surah 9:14) "I will instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers, smite ye above their necks and smite all their finger-tips off them. It is not ye who slew them; it was God." (Surah 8:13-17) "And kill them wherever you find them, and drive them out from whence they drove you out, and persecution is severer than slaughter..." (Surah 2:191) "And fight with them until there is no persecution, and religion should be only for Allah..." (Surah 2:193) "O you who believe! Fight those of the unbelievers who are near to you and let them find in you hardness; and know that Allah is with those who guard against evil." (Surah 9:123) "Surely Allah loves those who fight in His way in ranks as if they were a firm and compact wall." (Surah 61:4) "O ye who believe (i.e. Muslims), take not the Jews or the Christians for your friends and protectors. They are but friends and protectors to each other. And he among you who turns to them for friendship is of them." (Surah 5:51)

Actually, we had our collective “arses” handed to us during the Crusades. The only one that could truly be considered successful was the first. They did bring benefits to Western civilization, so I’m not complaining too much, but they were hardly victorious campaigns.

Indeed, it’s truly puzzling why they harp so much on the Crusades considering they came off pretty well for it. Sure it possibly slowed down their expansion a little bit, but the Crusaders really only amounted to a minor irritant.

That said, I think you are waaaaay too optimistic about Americans getting fired up about another 9/11 type attack. Perhaps my pessimism is due to living in a solidly blue state, but I think America might even be able to be nuked without making too much of a fuss. 2008 ain’t 1941, sadly.
