Carl Bernstein: One of Worst Nights of 'Shopworn' Hillary's Life
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/26/2008 7:41:27 PM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Carl Bernstein isn't just, on the basis of his Watergate-busting fame, a liberal icon. He's also a certified Hillary Clinton expert, having devoted years to researching and writing a definitive biography of her, A Woman in Charge. So his comments tonight on Hillary's graceless reaction to her stunning defeat at the hands of Barack Obama carry special weight, and are likely to reverberate through Dem circles. Here's Bernstein's brutal take, appearing on CNN .

CARL BERNSTEIN: One of the worst nights of Hillary Clinton's life. She had a chance at the end of the evening to be magnanimous, to say something about where her campaign is going to go. Instead she was shopworn, tired; it's exactly what they don't need, the Clinton campaign, and she's going to have an uphill fight from here in.

View the video here, not only to hear Bernstein's remarks, but to watch a graceless Hillary acknowledge Obama's victory only in passing while spending most of the same sentence speaking of primaries to come.

I think the illegal hispanic vote is the ace she has up her sleeve for California and all the southwest states.

If there is a profound change in political direction, it may be that of replacing blacks with hispanics as the favored minority of the Dems.

NEVER FORGET

.

There are a lot of poor S.E. Asian souls who’ve had a lot worse days and nights than HILL & BILL, after the CLINTONS actively backed a Communist terrorist take over of a then Free South Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Horridly bringing down on many to suffer thru, flee or die from in the process:

In this new time of war I wonder just whose Freedom is now directly at stake right here at home, and being made much more vulnerable because of the current HILL & BILL Show..?

.

NEVER FORGET

All of reviews of Bernstein’s book mention his writer’s block. This was from one review.

Carl Bernstein has had two publicly peak moments — garnering far more than his allotted 15 minutes of fame: first, as the rumpled journalist in the Washington Post’s “Wonderboys Do Watergate,” and then, as the boozy philandering husband of the acid-tongued Nora Ephron, memorialized in the (good) book “Heartburn” and recreated in the (bad) movie of the same name (where Bernstein and Ephron get waspized by Nicholson and Streep).

But now! the British press has let slip CB is about to have his third sweep at stardom, this time, a celebratory breakthrough of his 20-year writer’s block: Knopf

Not to change the topic, but I read that Obama left the state before the Nevada results were announced (victory for Hillary) and may not have given a concession speech either.

Also Carl Bernstein has a long history of commenting and writing negatively about Hillary. Man he looks awful (makes McCain look healthy in comparison)

Want to speak about no class. How about Romney interrupting (thereby causing the networks to switch) right in the middle of McCain’s concession speech in Michigan. Romney was much more obnoxious that night than Hillary tonight.

Anyway, nobody will remember her lack of a concession speech in 48 hours-it’s a total non-issue. Does anybody care about the Romney incident? Nope.

Getting clobbered by Obama will leave a welt on Hillary though.

Same can be said about McCain. Huckabee was giving his speech when McCain started giving his.

As for Hillary, anyone remembers when she first won her senate seat? I happened to be watching Lazio’s concession speech on CNN when the clintons came out in front of the cameras. CNN immediately cut to the clintons, so I switched to msnbc which at least had a split screen and stayed with lazio while showing the clintons.

Wasn’t the night Janet Reno dumped Hillary the worst day of her life?

I think Karl is shedding his skin, very slowly but in case he needs work in the future. Even he said “and she’s going to have an uphill fight from here in.” For him to say “Up Hill” is monumental.

Hillary was not snotty, but she was incredibly graceless.

A classy person would have spent five minutes on South Carolina. She should have congratulated Obama on a decisive victory. Then she should have apologized to the American people for the classless racist campaign she has run to date. She should have announced that Bill Clinton will be spending the remainder of the campaign in a Zimbabwe work camp as penance. Then she should have announced she is firing her campaign manager and five senior staffers and promised that from this point forward she will treat Obama with respect and acknowledge that he is a worthy opponent.

See how it is done?

:-)

perhaps a bit too much is being made of South Carolina. I got the sense she blew that state off some weeks ago. Why? Because she denied it.

I believe not enough is being made in South Carolina. imho this will be known as _the_ turning point of the campaign, and along with Iowa as the victories that catapulted Obama to the nomination. It is hard to see "historic moments" when you are in the middle of them. Hillary's graceless non-concession concession was a second historic moment that appeared to be a non-moment.

The American people will ultimately interpret it correctly, as a racist response showing lack of respect for Obama.

It's Charlie Brown time (again!) with this garbage. So far, we've had these pages played out of the Klintoon playbook:

And now it looks like they're trying the expectation of something awful when there's nothing page that worked so well with Slick's grand jury testimony. I'm just wondering when the adoption page is going to be used or is that just for reelections since it was done in '96?

I thought the night she conceived Chelsea was the worst night of her life.

I rather thought she liked Webb Hubbell.

While I personally believe Hillary is a lying, evil, despicable waste of flesh, time and space - I have to say I got the exactly opposite impression of that clip.

Unless the clip is not what Bernstein was bloviating about, it would appear that there is some sort of agenda being pushed here.
