I remember from one dose that Maureen Dowd was actually taken ill on this trip and was sorted out by the AF1 doctor but I suspect no mention of this from her.

White liberal guilt is rampant. I’m not saying it’s justified, just that it exists. Just my opinion.

However, I’m not so afflicted. Mainly because I’m a Republican. We tend not to be politically correct and believe America has been a level playing field at least since the passage of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act two generations ago.

Remember, however, there are still race hustlers like Sharpton and Jackson out there to fan the flames of white guilt.

Above everything-else, MSM slashed & burned itself because of BDS. 81% don't believe whatever they "report" as news.

Unfortunately, even though they don't believe what the MSM reports, too many of the sheeple still let them influence what they think is true, hence the low approval ratings for Bush, the trashing of Fred's campaign, the build up of Huckabee and McCain, etc.

So far the MSM has been calling the tune for way too many people's view of what's happening in the campaign.  They've managed to eliminate the truly strong and worthy conservative choices, such as Hunter (early) or Thompson.  I, for one, bought the line on Hunter not being viable way before that should have had any meaning.  That's because I had other choices I thought were both "more viable" and at least acceptable or, as in the case of Fred, even a great choice.  Now that it's down to fewer choices they'll have less ability to drive things their way (I hope) and push their choice McCain on us.  There are fewer places for reasonably intelligent people to turn if they don't want McCain so the opposition won't be as divided.  Huckabee isn't it, leaving Mitt or Rudy and, of the two, I much prefer Mitt (though I could live with Rudy over McCain)

Hell, I could live with Obama or Hillary over Huckabee, for that matter.  The Huckster represents the worst case combination of Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter to me.  With Hillary I belive that we could effectively counter her most of the time, even without a majority in either house, and I think that she would galvanize the nation much the way Jimmy Carter did, but today, with us around, she wouldn't have as much opportunity to damage the nation during her term as Jimmah did.  Obama is someone I think we could also oppose effectively on the more extreme things he might do, though there is more danger if he is "leading a movement" of him doing damage that will be hard to fix.  He also is that rare bird, a liberal who is young and, perhaps, naive enough, to hold the positions he does honestly, even if he is wrong.  If that is the case there is the possibility that he could learn the error of his ways and turn out to be a good thing, in the long run. 70-30 against, but possible.

For me most of the same kind of logic about the Democrats applies in regards to McCain, but for different reasons.  I definitely like most of McCain's positions on the WOT, but his fondness for embracing folks like Kerry and even his Vietnamese torturers troubles me in that arena.  More importantly I think that he is terribly wrong on so many issues, such as immigration, that having him as the President makes me afraid that we couldn't muster the resources to oppose things like Shamnesty, given a Dhimmicrat Congress.  That would make him more dangerous, IMHO, than Hillary or Obama.

the reports I’ve seen are that she was taken ill on AF1 towards the end of the President’s ME trip. That was the first I’d heard that MoDo was on that trip and I certainly hadn’t seen any news from her about the trip. I then saw other reports about her filing a report as if she were in New Hampshire on primary day, including detailed descriptions of people and events at various campaign stops that she couldn’t have attended because she was in Israel at the time.

I get that all the time from FReepers when the results are not to their liking.

I have limited confidence in these polls regardless whether I am inclined to like or not like what they are saying.

Brit slapped Wallace down.

“Our job as journalists is to clarify.” Wallace failed. Wallace purposefully spun the editing of the ABC interview. That type of journalism is unforgivable. Brit Hume is excellent. I wish more journalists had his character and dedication to the profession. The world would be so much better off.

I still say FNC does not want to lose us so we should rattle their cage every time they pull this “shot”. That should have been an “i”.

I don't think that Huckabee believes anything he's saying, nor has he ever. He's a con man.

I just said that very thing to one of my girls on our way to brunch.

What do y'all think about Bill Krystal announcing on the FNS roundtable that Lynn Cheney will endorse Mitt Romney. Followed by a statement from Brit that 90% of the Bush family is backing Romney...further that the Repub establisnment can't stand McVain, etc?

As others have pointed out, it's Liz Cheney (the straight daughter) and not Lynn Cheney, that Kristol was talking about.

As to the rest of the comment I would change the statment "the Repub establishment can't stand McVain" to "the Conservative establishment can't stand McVain."

I think that sufficiently explains the position of anyone named Cheney in regards to McCain.

And I agree 1,000% with them.

I would vote for Dick Cheney over anyone else, ANYONE ELSE, for President.

I would almost ceratainly vote for anyone either the Bush or Cheney families (as a whole) were suporting.

I still believe this from George W. Bush's first inaugural adress, and think it prophetic:

After the Declaration of Independence was signed, Virginia statesman John Page wrote to Thomas Jefferson: ``We know the race is not to the swift nor the battle to the strong. Do you not think an angel rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm?''

Much time has passed since Jefferson arrived for his inauguration. The years and changes accumulate. But the themes of this day he would know: our nation's grand story of courage and its simple dream of dignity.

We are not this story's author, who fills time and eternity with his purpose. Yet his purpose is achieved in our duty, and our duty is fulfilled in service to one another.

Never tiring, never yielding, never finishing, we renew that purpose today, to make our country more just and generous, to affirm the dignity of our lives and every life.

This work continues. This story goes on. And an angel still rides in the whirlwind and directs this storm.

In this crisis, George W. Bush is the agent of that angel.

You are right, but instead I think that Brit is getting burned out, and considering how peaceful retirement would be. He must be very unhappy with the new liberal executive at Fox News Channel.

You won’t get an argument from me. I am in awe of Romney’s intellect, and ability to deal with “the reality of” this primary experience. I really believe that he can transcend the media bent against him and reach a majority of voters before Nov 2008.

McCain presents the worst of possibilities. Democrats would use him to get the policies they want but remain able to blame Republicans for anything that goes wrong. Most of the time, the president gets credit or blame even though the other party caused it to happen.

Clinton brags over his welfare reform but he only signed it because the Republican congress basically forced him to over time. G. HW Bush got blamed for the tax increase as he tried to work with the Democrats in congress who promised restraint but did not deliver. GW Bush is blamed for Iraq even though almost all Democrats jumped on the bandwagon of war in support thinking they could get a political benefit for it.

... we are currently fighting for the soul of the Republican party. The folks in charge now, regardless of what they were when they started, are not Conservatives.

Regardless of the final outcome of the Pub Convention, this is and will remain the heart of the matter. Increasingly, for me, the dilemma of which GOP candidate is better on this or that issue is fast being overtaken by the question of just what has this party become?

Hunter's message was clear and Fred's was acceptable. However, Hunter's recent support for Huckabee and Fred's collapse have led me to the conclusion that we Pubs are badly rent.

While leaning toward Romney now, after seeing my fist two choices bite the dust, I'm not liking it all that much. My interest is beginning to center around waiting for the 2008 platform and hearing what the nominee has to say. My absolute disgust for the Dims could possibly rally me to vote for even McCain when I'm in the ballot booth staring into the abyss of a Rat presidency. But something has to give, and I don't think I will be able to resist working for the creation of a viable Conservative party if this election serves up a choice between what turns out to be Dim and Dim-lite.

It was depressing today to watch Brit on FNS having to defend Romney from that fop, Wallace. I was instantly reminded of the great Peggy Lee tune, Is That All There Is?.

As true in many situations, often the convert has the strongest commitment to the new faith or position. For Romney to acknowledge that he has moved from a pro-choice to a pro-life position is a plus in my book. He thought about the issue and revised his perspective. That is a flip, but not a flipflop.
