The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows a two-man race for the Republican Presidential Nomination. John McCain and Mitt Romney are tied for the lead at 27% and no one else is close. Mike Huckabee is eleven points back at 16%, Rudy Giuliani is at 14%, and Ron Paul is supported by 6% of Likely Republican Primary Voters (see recent daily numbers).
New polling data released today shows Romney with a six point lead over McCain in Florida. But, the survey was conducted just before Governor Charlie Crist endorsed McCain and nearly one-in-four likely voters still might change their mind.
Looking ahead, McCain leads in New York, McCain and Giuliani are close in New Jersey, while McCain and Romney are close in California. Huckabee leads in Georgia, Huckabee and McCain are essentially tied in both Missouri and Alabama.
Actually, it was that very Rasmussen poll I was referring to.
McCain does 3 points better than Romney in match ups against both Clinton and Obama, which is well within the margin of error, meaning Romney and McCain are in a statistical tie.
Both are currently beaten by either Democrat, though the margins are small.
Most significantly is that McCain has lost his electoral edge over both Democrats according to the polls, meaning the rationale for a McCain nomination (he can win) is now gone.
MOE.
McCain has the edge, because New York and New Jersey were rigged by Rudy to be “winner take all” states. Rudy expected to be that winner, but now McCain is heavily favored. Mitt needs a string of good things to happen, or Liberal John McCain will be the GOP nominee.
America...remember McCain on... IMMIGRAGION, THE GROUP OF 14, McCAIN/FEINGOLD, McCAIN/KENNEDY, MAKING THE PRES' TAX CUTS PERMANENT, (again) IMMIGRATION
It won’t be easy, but Romney will overcome all the obstacles in his way. He will win.
You know, I was thinking the other day that Haley Barbour may be the ideal running mate for Romney.
What do you think?
BTW, why does your tagline say Haley Barbour 2012?
Do you think the GOP is going to lose in ‘08 or something?
Maybe you should change it to “Romney-Barbour ‘08” instead ; )
Facts is facts.
Update
Sunday , Jan.27
Romney leads 42% to 22% among conservative voters while McCain leads 43% to 25% among moderates.
Florida: Romney 33% McCain 27%

Many of these Thompson supporters have been hard to convince, but if they will get behind Romney with the kind of fervor they showed for Fred, you’re absolutely correct, the sky’s the limit! McCain and the Democrats will have a problem on their hands, for sure, if conservatives unite against them.
A Romney win in Florida coupled with a stronger than expected showing by Giuliani could cause a Romney surge in either New York or New Jersey while splitting McCain’s support down the middle with Giuliani, allowing Mitt to squeak by with a victory in one or both of those winner takes all states.
I wonder, do New York Republicans respect the New York Times and their political endorsements? ; )
I don’t believe Christ is any republican’s favorite governor. he is.....mccain light.
Crist! It’s Crist that endorsed McCain.
Christ is backing Huckabee...
Yeh, he ran against a Dem crook...so he won big.
But, he isn’t loved and he is not endearing himself with the rino endorsement.
You have to wonder at times...
“Among voters who consider the economy the most important issue, Romney has a very narrow edge over McCain, 37% to 33%.”
This after McCain declared he wished interest rates were zero percent and stated that he didn’t have the knowlege to know if interest rates had been cut enough.
I mean, some people might like the destruction of the US banking system and the collapse of the US dollar, so who am I to judge??? :(
“I wonder, do New York Republicans respect the New York Times and their political endorsements?”
Not even the employees of the Times follow their endorsements.
Jane, Mitt kills mcpain on immigration, 63 to 7, that’s a rough guess, can’t remember. But the thing I can tell you after being polled, I didn’t give illegal immigration as first on my list even though it is. Amnesty does figure in here, and it is impossible for mcpain to lie his way out of that one.
I think Mitt will win by 8-10%. Some of the polls have moved Mitt up 10 points in the last week.
