Romney said he signed up for a life long membership within the last year. Sorry, Mitt. It's called a Life membership and no, it's not retroactive.
As to the Fred-endorsing-McCain rumor, that's been around forever and Mark Levin has said recently that the rumor originated in the McCain camp. There's a current FR thread on that very subject.

Sorry about that. I just posted on the wrong thread. This one is the thread regarding the Mark Levin report.

I support gun rights, but don't have an NRA membership. What does that make me?
Mark Levin has said recently that the rumor originated in the McCain camp.
That explains why there are contradictory statements and rumors regarding Thompson. His legal advisors have gone to Romney's campaign, along with a lot of staff, so it would make little sense for Thompson to endorse McCain if all his supporters are of the mind to go for Romney.

(It's your fault, not Pelosi's.)

I can't find any quotes where Romney uses the words "life-long member". I found
one reference in WND where they say he said he was a "life member", which is the correct term:
Last August, with a presidential bid clearly in focus, Romney joined the NRA, signing up not just as a supporter but a "life member."
