NY NOW: "Betrayal!"
Politico: Ben Smith ^ | January 28, 2008 | Ben Smith

Posted on 01/28/2008 1:12:56 PM PST by Sherman Logan

Whoa. The New York State chapter of the National Organization for Women attacked Ted Kennedy for his endorsement today with some real heat.. The Times Union reported it first (writing, "'Scathing' feels inadequate here."), and I confirmed its authenticity with the president of the organization, Marcia Pappas.

I started to pick out the most eyebrow-raising passages but, that proved kind of hard, so here's the whole thing:

“Women have just experienced the ultimate betrayal. Senator Kennedy’s endorsement of Hillary Clinton’s opponent in the Democratic presidential primary campaign has really hit women hard. Women have forgiven Kennedy, stuck up for him, stood by him, hushed the fact that he was late in his support of Title IX, the ERA, the Family Leave and Medical Act to name a few. Women have buried their anger that his support for the compromises in No Child Left Behind and the Medicare bogus drug benefit brought us the passage of these flawed bills. We have thanked him for his ardent support of many civil rights bills, BUT women are always waiting in the wings.

“And now the greatest betrayal! We are repaid with his abandonment! He’s picked the new guy over us. He’s joined the list of progressive white men who can’t or won’t handle the prospect of a woman president who is Hillary Clinton (they will of course say they support a woman president, just not “this” one). ‘They’ are Howard Dean and Jim Dean (Yup! That’s Howard’s brother) who run DFA (that’s the group and list from the Dean campaign that we women helped start and grow). They are Alternet, Progressive Democrats of America, democrats.com, Kucinich lovers and all the other groups that take women’s money, say they’ll do feminist and women’s rights issues one of these days, and conveniently forget to mention women and children when they talk about poverty or human needs or America’s future or whatever.

“This latest move by Kennedy, is so telling about the status of and respect for women’s rights, women’s voices, women’s equality, women’s authority and our ability – indeed, our obligation - to promote and earn and deserve and elect, unabashedly, a President that is the first woman after centuries of men who ‘know what’s best for us.’”

As with many of these advocacy groups, different chapters wield varying influence in different states, and NOW isn't the sort of political player in New York that, say, NARAL, is.

Still.

It looks at the moment like the traditional coalitions are falling apart in both parties.

Feminists vs. blacks in the Democratic Party.

Social conservatives vs. fiscal conservatives vs. foreign policy conservatives in the GOP.

Interesting times.

Whatever happened to “pro-choice” ? Oh wait, choice means that you “choose” from their predefined menu. (For example, you can’t choose to keep your legs closed.)

If you don’t subscribe to their groupthink, you are banished from the village.

Now let’s see them organize and have him removed from office.

Yes, but once the nominee is chosen, the dems will forget all their differences to concentrate on the “evil” republicans.

Women have forgiven Kennedy, stuck up for him, stood by him

I can think of one offhand that was prevented from doing that. By death.

The hoot is that both Hellary and Osamada Bamaada support pro-abortion and so-called women's rights. So it is now about sexism and perhaps racism with the NOW hags. Enjoy the fruits of your rewards NOW.

Why would anyone lambast Kennedy and his niece, Caroline, for choosing the person they believe is best qualified to run our country? Could they themselves be warped and twisted, racist, hate mongers?

If the Dinos had an once of never and a sense of humor they would have dubbed her Mama Pappas.

“White”?

NOW is bugged that white people would forsake their own kind to vote for a colored.

Yup. The “party is coming apart” news story template applies only to the GOP.

And of course there’s a distinct possiblity we’ll have a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket to heal the split.

Anyway, feminist black women must be feeling a little split personality right now.

In NOW’s world, even they cannot criticize a black man, or even a black woman, for voting for a black man over a white woman. And of course their assumption is that all “progressive” white women are voting for the woman candidate anyway, and evil conservatives won’t vote for either one.

So the only people they can criticize for voting for the colored guy instead of the broad are liberal white men.
