Why the Duke Case Matters to All of Us
Hawaii Reporter ^ | Jan. 29, 2008

Posted on 01/30/2008 5:31:10 AM PST by CondorFlight

The three falsely accused Duke students are now suing the city of Durham for their mishap; and rather than being a run-of-the-mill run-for-the-till, this has actually become a fight for an affirmation of our Constitution.

In the 1930s in Scottsboro, nine young men were accused by two loose women of rape; the women wanted to avoid getting into trouble with the police, and thought a cry of rape would help. It was axiomatic that the men, all black, had to be guilty; a verdict of innocence would have been too upsetting to the dominant culture to contemplate.

Advance the clock by 75 years, and you get Durham. Reprise the women and the allegation. Substitute three lacrosse players for the nine young men. Reverse the colors. And then observe that when the city of Durham made its response in the lawsuit, it boldly proclaimed, that even if the civil rights of the lacrosse players had been violated, this was irrelevant, because "White Duke lacrosse players are not a protected class recognized as needing protection by the government under federal civil-rights law".

In other words, civil rights laws and protections apply to some, but not all, of our citizens.

It will be interesting to see if this claim is accepted...

(snip)

This sacrifice of rights is, of course, seen by many as preferable to upsetting our current social constructs: as at Scottsboro, non-PC citizens cannot be allowed to be legally perceived as innocent victims; or, as someone has said, "Some cases are too important for innocence to be allowed as a defense."

"White Duke lacrosse players are not a protected class recognized as needing protection by the government under federal civil-rights law".

Liberal-speak for "up yours, whitey".

Orwell was right.

Translation of Liberal Speak: Whatever is said, turn upside down, inside out, for meaning.

Blacks are mistakenly under the impression that they own the term “Civil Rights”.

Someone needs their head examined.

I’m not aware that any federal law says that white people don’t have civil rights.

I hope these three young men take Nifong, the city, the university, and the racist professors for everything they and their insurance companies are worth, and use the money wisely.

Amazing that the writer actually knows the name of the judge in the Scottsboro case.

He was a good man. A true Southern gentleman. "Fiat justicia, ruat caelum" -- "Let justice be done, though the heavens fall."

The best blog on the entire Nifong case by KC Johnson.

Covers the entire saga from about two weeks after it started.

Soon to be in book form.

Thanks to KC Johnson and several other NC Bloggers, we had a fascinating look at the state of the Civil Rights industry in this country as well as the no-Justice Dept on all levels....truly a David (Lacrosse) vs Goliath (Left, Academia, MSM, LEOs...etc) situation. Another sterling example of how the new media has enhanced our national conversations...thankfully the Lacrosse Players’ families were financially able to get first class legal defence!

“...no prosecutor nor any of those helping him may ever be held accountable for any of their actions, not even if these actions include falsifying evidence, lying to a Grand Jury, or hiding exculpatory evidence—all of which are alleged in the Duke suit.

All of this criminality, yet only Nifong served a few days in jail.

And if Durham loses, the mostly innocent people of Durham will pay the price. No justice here that I can see!

The book is already out: “Until Proven Innocent”.

Here on FR we have been cataloguing the Duke Rape Hoax via the keyword “dukelax” BTW. I am proud to say that FR sniffed it out within about two weeks of the first article, for all the right reasons.
