I don't know why birthright citizenship keeps tripping Mike Huckabee up, but it does.
He was asked at last night's debate whether he supports "making changes in the law" to end the policy, which says almost all children born in the U.S. are automatically citizens, even if they are born to illegal aliens. Here's his answer:
MR. HUCKABEE: I think the Supreme Court's already ruled on that. The real issue is, that doesn't fix the problem.
Compare that to what he told this blog in August:
"I would support changing that. I think there is reason to revisit that, just because a person, through sheer chance of geography, happened to be physically here at the point of birth, doesn't necessarily constitute citizenship," he said. "I think that's a very reasonable thing to do, to revisit that."

And to what he said in a written statement last month:
"If the Supreme Court chooses to review lower-court decisions regarding the 14th Amendment, that is their prerogative, but my priorities for constitutional amendments are to protect human life and traditional marriage."

You sure you don't work there?
BTW, they also thought it horrid that George Allen's mother was JEWISH!!!
Watch where you step eh.
I like Evangelicals but the words for today are “don’t be duped” by a Huckster
Just think of me as Brother Billybob, the kindly old priest who takes all the more difficult stories behind the screen eh!
Muckabee would go right along with McCain on the amnesty for illegals legislation and leaving the borders open. But before they acted on that, they would firs make sure their Fairness Doctrine was in place!
Regarding the open borders nonsense, what you had was the Republican party's "leadership elite", which included the President, the House and Senate leadership, Republican governors, the National Chamber of Commerce, and countryclubbers everywhere deciding they could "pick off" the Hispanic vote forever by legalizing all the Hispanic illegals.
Every single one of them went along with the idea, and only a handful of elected Republicans opposed it.
It took the base of the party to rise up against this nonsense and derail it.
I don't think you can target any particular individual (other than Karl Rove) in this debacle; nor do I see that any of the folks still running all that clean. They either supported the idea, or they stood aside, or they didn't speak out early enough in opposition.
All are guilty; all are unclean!
Its hard to pin Huckabee down on anything.
He is the most adroit and well-spoken poltician I have heard since George Wallace.
The media would have a very hard time trying to nail him and so would the Dems.
Slick Willie part two .... another dope from Hope.
They also asked John McLame about the McCain-Kennedy Illegal Amnesty Bill - SEVERAL TIMES.
And he was brusque, rude, supercilious and arrogant. He refused to answer the question and he was not as suave or adroit as Huckabee.
John McCain is a ticking political time bomb. He will never beat Hillery or Obama.
“Fairness Doctrine? Hardly ~ that’s a Dem thing.”
And you don’t think McCain/Huckabee would be against McCain/Feingold and the Fairness Doctrine? When any legislation like that would come to his desk, McCain would not be able to find his veto pen!
I'd make repeal of McCain/Feingold the second item on the platform ~ right after Right to Life.
Bingo!
Congress has the authority to make immigration regular, NOT decide what those immigrants are.
The Founders referred to People IN the States but not of the State to be denizens, BTW. It was supposed to be left up to the State as to whether or not these denizens deserved to be Citizens of the State.

Since giving the 14th Amendment the ability of the federal government to extend outside its areas of enumerated jurisdiction would itself be unconstitutional, one must wonder if this 'error' was purely accidental.
“Open borders out the wazoo. And yet, so many evangelicals are duped by this A-hole.”
They remind me of the evangelicals who voted for Carter simply because of his professing to be a Christian. Unfortunately, it looks like the rest of us will have to suffer for their lack of discernment.
I just heard McCains voice say on Lauras show that: Yes, John Kerry and I are very good friends, so of course if he asked me to be his VP I would entertain it.
And Senator Rick Santorum just endorsed Mitt Romney! :)
HONESTLY, Does any conservative need anything else to convince them that a vote for ANYONE but Mitt Romney gives us John McCain as nominee and then in November, Hillary in the White House? PLEASE, vote Romney on Tuesday!
This Florida FredHead is hoping Fred comes out and endorses Mitt today!!!!!
From June, 2005.
During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.
Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabees comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.
The Republican governor, who many believe will run for president in 2008, also backed legislation that would have opened the door for illegal immigrants in Arkansas to receive college scholarships.
House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, was approved by the House but eventually failed in the Senate. Huckabee reiterated Wednesday that he believes every child, regardless of their parents immigration status, should have an opportunity to receive an education in the U.S.

Yea, kinda like the Lautenberg Domestic Violence Amendment?
I expect some of the same freepers arguing that John McCain’s birth in Panama is not an issue under the Constitution, due to his parents both being Americans, will make the argument that a child born here of Mexican parents is automatically an American citizen under the Constitution.
