Given the fact that McCain was regularly tortured by the Vietnamese, it is certainly understandable why he would have such feelings. There are far better reasons to vote against Mr. McCain than this verbal outburst.

This is NOT presidential. McCain does not have the proper temperament to be PResident in these very serious and trying times.

Like Thomas Sowell said, Benedict Arnold was a war hero, too. Hero status doesn’t last forever, and McCain neglected to renew his status.

The man is a hero,
*********
He’s also mentally unbalanced. imo

He doesn’t have the temperment for the office. He is also a bully; and, according to news reports, crooked.imo

John McCain lacks leadership for War on Terror. His leadership codified the Army interrogation manual. His leadership granted terrorists American citizenship under Fifth, Eighth and Fourteenth Amendments. He ensured information vital for terrorist defeats remains sacred and unobtainable. Terrorists are unresponsive to direct questioning and psychological gambits, so interrogators need the range of techniques our military encounters in survival schools. McCain embraces liberal orthodoxy considering those methods torture, when his searing experiences enable contrary incites.

McCain especially understands terrorists are not insurgents or freedom fighters; when captured, certainly not prisoners of war. They are not armed forces, militias, or volunteer corps of any country or authority. These killers are not members of organized resistance movements carrying arms openly. They have no distinctive identifier. McCain understands Geneva Conventions intended to isolate such forces, provide no protections and destroy them with any overwhelming fury needed to crush their abominations.

McCain especially appreciates devastating, unforeseeable perils must lead deliberations, because laws guaranteeing and defining American civil liberties presuppose operability within an invincible society. The Federal government’s primary responsibility is to pursue Alexander Hamilton’s admonition that defensive power exist without limitation, providing capabilities thwarting dangers as well as responding to attacks. McCain understands powerful warfare capabilities require potent intelligence acquisition and exploitation for successful campaigns.

McCain continually seeks popular advancement by placating those coveting comforting morality sheltered from hard choices and awareness of danger. His crime is repudiating those facing hard choices when confronting shrewd, ruthless enemies obscured by frightening uncertainties.

I guess we touched a nerve. I think that SmithL has a temper like McCain’s.

“Is Drudge supporting McCain? This article seems like a cheap shot to me, almost overly so. What would one expect a man who had been tortured to say? I am no fan of McCain by a long shot, but his statements about his barbaric captors will certainly not keep me from voting for him.”

I can’t think of a better reason to disqualify him from the office of President of the United States.

The ‘Gooks’ are economic allies of the United States, and I would prefer to see us send manufactuing business to VietNam than to China.

By the way, does ‘Gook’ include all Asians? Just Charlie? The Japanese?

See how this gets messy?

I second that... and I am no supporter of J. McCain. Besides, what the hell do the morons think a man who had been tortured by the communists is going to say? Hugs and kisses? MSN idiots... definitely a cheap shot.

I’m not sure what the connection is between a news story claiming he used the word “gooks” to an attack on his war record.

I tend to agree with you. So why didn’t McCain say that? Why claim that Drudge was attacking his war record? The story says nothing about his war record, it’s about something he said in 2000.

I have no respect for McCain. I don’t care what he did 35 years ago. He is now a dishonorable human being. But as far as what he allegedly said about “gooks” after what he endured at their hands. Why would it be an issue. Why should he feel otherwise?

GOP presidential candidate John McCain's meteoric rise to front-runner status has made him target of new Internet attacks from his political opponents

Not to worry. Ol' Johnny Boy will fix that up right quick.
Get your licks in now. You have until October 4th, 2008 to post your dissent on FR.

Who’d have thought he’d invoke his “hero status”? Color me surprised.

And color him Kerry.
