Like my Mom used to say, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me.” Life was much less stressful when individuals took responsibility for what offends and doesn’t offend them. Teaching a child to ignore what others are saying about him or her is one of the best lessons a parent can provide.
