Berkeley council tells Marines to leave

Hey-hey, ho-ho, the Marines in Berkeley have got to go.

That's the message from the Berkeley City Council, which voted 6-3 Tuesday night to tell the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do so as uninvited and unwelcome intruders."

In addition, the council voted to explore enforcing its law prohibiting discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation against the Marines because of the military's don't ask, don't tell policy. And it officially encouraged the women's peace group Code Pink to impede the work of the Marines in the city by protesting in front of the station.

In a separate item, the council voted 8-1 to give Code Pink a designated parking space in front of the recruiting station once a week for six months and a free sound permit for protesting once a week from noon to 4 p.m.

Councilman Gordon Wozniak opposed both items.

The Marines have been in Berkeley for a little more than a year, having moved from Alameda in December of 2006. For about the past four months, Code Pink has been protesting in front of the station.

"I believe in the Code Pink cause. The Marines don't belong here, they shouldn't have come here, and they should leave," said Berkeley Mayor Tom Bates after votes were cast.

I think we ought to have a draft and de-program these kids. 12 years of grade school... 2 years of service and then college.

“I wish these folks would secede from the U.S. and form their own country.”

We can only hope they do secede and form their own country.

Why should FReepers so hope?

Well, if they are a separate nation, then they could be invaded, sold to the Arabs, and their property kept by the victors.

Doubtlessly, the victors would then rejoin America. Actually, it would not take very many Americans to defeat the Sheeples Republic of Berserkly because the Libroids in Berkley hate guns and therefore don’t own any.

All is for the best in this best of all possible worlds.

Brain washed to the max … sad. And, he has a PHD!

Well, that explains it...some people are educated beyond their intelligence.

“Brain washed to the max … sad. And, he has a PHD!”

Don’t forget that PhD is an acronym for “piled higher and deeper”.

Maybe we need to get a bill passed that once a municipality has decided to boot out the military, then once a disaster like a mudlside or earthquake strikes them they’ll receive no protections from the national guard!

I was talking to my brother tonight and fear we’re headed toward a civil war.

No. The normal people there and our silly cousins have to be protected. They don’t have to be kept comfortable though.

New Orleans was swamped with water, and many people linked that to high crime and so forth and God’s wrath, which I never thought too much about prior to Katrina, but I’ve often wondered when and where an earthquake will strike Cesspoolifornication.

We need to send a Marine Expeditionary Force into the Communist Republic of Berkeley to take it back from the would be terrorists and seditionists and reunite it with the United States.

The most amazing thing about him, he is a great debater. He is level headed in any discussion, and can hold his own. He is amicable when he loses and level headed when he wins. He just refuses to debate the possibility that he could be wrong in his political convictions.

Believe me, I wouldn’t wish it on a soul. As far as Sodom and Gemorrah go, I think Las Vegas actually comes closer.

But it’s not a matter of if, but when.

How does he deal with it there btw?

He doesn’t. He was out to sea. His wife and two kids handled the last quake and the fire like troopers though.

Scatter shooting while wondering if Berkeley City Council has any “issues” with abortion clinics (that is if there are any that set up shop in that bleeding heart liberal sink hole)?

PHD = piled higher and deeper.

Very few PHD’s have normal common sense. A reality problem.

The city of Berkley needs a strong douche!
