Learning a language may be a good decision for the future but this is America and you should have a choice. This is an English speaking country to boot.
I’d sue.

That would really piss me off if it was done to one of my children.

As I recall I was forced to learn Spanish in High School (or French or German but I took Spanish because everyone said it was easiest.) I don’t know what it’s like now but back in the 70’s a foriegn language requirement in HS or even middle school wasn’t that uncommon.

In a Texas school, they have to learn Spanish—in a Massachusetts school, they have to learn about homosexuals—homeschool looks like the only option.

My daughter will have three years of Spanish in high school. While she would like to learn another language, she would have liked to had a choice. My 3 year old grandaughter was counting in Spanish in the car today and also told me "Rapido!" when the traffic light turned green. (Thanks, Dora the Explorer)
What is the standard at other high schools around the country regarding a second language?

"I'm not real happy with the issue," said Ashley's mom, Leigh Allison. Ashley's mom needs to learn to speak proper English.

At our elementary school in Arlington VA, all students are required to take a foreign language — but Spanish is the only language offered. I spoke up at a PTA meeting, saying we needed some choice in foreign languages. Nobody seconded my motion, even though all the parents at the meeting were white.
By the way: the Catholic diocese of Washington has decreed that all students in diocese schools must take Spanish.

One more attack on English. American English is the only this we need. Illegals are doing this to us!.

I teach 3rd grade in a suburb of Dallas. My school has a large hispanic population, but there are not any required foreign language classes in our district at the elementary level. They are not even offered at that level as far as I know.

I studied Latin, French, and German in HS and learned some Italian from a few of my neighborhood buddies.
Now if I try to speak in Spanish to any of the “locals” who don’t admit to understanding English it comes out a mixture of French, German, Italian, and Spanish. And they look at me like they don’t understand! Ignorants!
I guess I’m truly a Renaissance Man...

Officials with the Grapevine-Colleyville School District stress that Spanish has been long been a part of school curriculum and released a statement to TXA 21 News that said in part "We are currently reviewing our world language curriculum to further benefit students, within the resources available. It is our privilege to educate any and all children who attend Grapevine-Colleyville ISD." World language curriculum? Ya, right. So why not teach the little crumb crunchers Chinese or Russian. I'd pay to see little Mexicans sitting in an Elementary school in Texas having to learn to speak Russian. :-)

Those who don’t learn English in America, are relegated to a life of lower than average wages.
Those who promote these anti-English policies are pursuing a racist agenda, whether intended or not.

BTW, sorry for the break in posting - I have been in and out of the hospital with pneumonia, but am better now, thanks for asking.
