Battle heats up over coed-shower law

A war of words has erupted in Montgomery County, Md., where a citizens group is nearing the number of signatures needed to force a new law granting special protections to those with "gender identity" issues to a vote of the people.

Citizens for a Responsible Government must present the signatures of 12,500 registered voters to the county's board of election supervisors by Monday, with another 12,500 due Feb. 16. Officials said they have 10,000 and expect to meet the first deadline.

"People are energized; they really feel betrayed by their county government," said Ruth Jacobs, president of the group leading the work on the initiative. "This issue [affects] the privacy of women and children."

But it was her exchange with County Executive Isiah Leggett, who signed the controversial plan into law, that has heated up. In response to her concerns about the issue, he warned that she has "an obligation to state the facts."

She had asked him to support the citizens' right to vote on the plan because it potentially would open women's restrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms in health clubs, schools and community pools to transsexual men.

Leggett said that was a misrepresentation, because both he and the county council have articulated the view that such facilities are not included.

"Your reading of the terms of the bill is in error … If you are in disagreement with this, that is your right," he told her. "However, you have an obligation to state the facts."

So Susan Jamison, a lawyer for the citizens' group, weighed in with a rebuttal.

"With all due respect Mr. Leggett, it is important that we clarify exactly what the issues and risks here truly are.

Leggett is lying through his teeth. Everyone knows his motive is to declare himself of "in-determinant" sex and start hopping into the ladies showers himself.

This guy and his cronies on the county council are perverts.

If a majority of the citizens want to vote to make accommodation for people who feel uncomfortable in their native rest room that within the rights of the majority.

You are reading the article wrong. They don't want to allow transexuals into their restrooms they want to prevent males who think they are females from using women's restrooms. The law was just passed allowing this type of behaviour and the citizens want it stopped.

So, we can't have a law against, "Ewwwww!"? I suppose if we did, it would end the career of quite a few celebrities. And co-workers. And family members...

:o)

Be honest guys. Can you honestly say that at some time in your lustful youth you wouldn’t have claimed ‘gender issues’ just to get to shower naked with a couple of girls you’d had your eye on?

No. Raise your hand.

Yup, I just don’t get these Dems.

On many personal issues they get up in arms and don’t want non-traditional things forced on them, but THEY are the 1s who keep being stupid and vote people in who DO support non-traditional.

Why are they shocked when liberal-commie Dems do this? Don’t they read the platforms and beliefs of the party?

“you don’t want to take her into the men’s room not can he go into the women’s room.”

Which brings to mind, why don’t they actually “stall-ize” those damn urinals? Why is it such a peep show? Isn’t that bad around homos, too?

Actually you were correct.

This is only a “group”. That doesn’t mean the MAJORITY of “citizens” would actually care or want to stop the bill.

That reminds me - have you seen the Urinal Game? You have to choose which is the appropriate urinal to use in various conditions.
