Battle heats up over coed-shower law

A war of words has erupted in Montgomery County, Md., where a citizens group is nearing the number of signatures needed to force a new law granting special protections to those with "gender identity" issues to a vote of the people.

Citizens for a Responsible Government must present the signatures of 12,500 registered voters to the county's board of election supervisors by Monday, with another 12,500 due Feb. 16. Officials said they have 10,000 and expect to meet the first deadline.

"People are energized; they really feel betrayed by their county government," said Ruth Jacobs, president of the group leading the work on the initiative. "This issue [affects] the privacy of women and children."

But it was her exchange with County Executive Isiah Leggett, who signed the controversial plan into law, that has heated up. In response to her concerns about the issue, he warned that she has "an obligation to state the facts."

She had asked him to support the citizens' right to vote on the plan because it potentially would open women's restrooms, shower rooms and locker rooms in health clubs, schools and community pools to transsexual men.

Leggett said that was a misrepresentation, because both he and the county council have articulated the view that such facilities are not included.

"Your reading of the terms of the bill is in error … If you are in disagreement with this, that is your right," he told her. "However, you have an obligation to state the facts."

So Susan Jamison, a lawyer for the citizens' group, weighed in with a rebuttal.

"With all due respect Mr. Leggett, it is important that we clarify exactly what the issues and risks here truly are.

"People are energized; they really feel betrayed by their county government," said Ruth Jacobs, president of the group leading the work on the initiative.

I don't know why these democrat voters feel betrayed since they were the very ones who elected the all democrat County Commission and the buffoon Ike Leggett to their exalted posts last November.

They're now reaping what they sowed and and are gnawing their tongues and gnashing their teeth because Leggett and the commission is now pursuing the blantantly homesexual/transgender agenda throughout the county.

They're only getting what they asked for...

Will not solve your problems.
One liberal, town, county or state passes some dumbass law/ordinance, then when court upholds whatever stupidity as been proposed all the liberal town, county and state pols start writing similar legislation.
The problem is that people not affected by first legislation/ordinance either do not know about, or say that is not my community therefore will not affect me.
Not realizing that whole purpose of original legislation is to get court approval, so that ,the protected class of people can either prey on or feed off the unprotected class of people.
In this case I can see pedophile claiming Gender class protection with government sanction, and taking to court to affirm into law

Sorry not ranting at you, subjects such as these just really torque me off

Sounds like these people are the east coast clan of the Berkley Hatriots. Have they tried throwing the Marines out of town too?

“Liberals continuously want to make America a freak show. Glad I’m out of the Peoples Republic of Maryland!!”

........me too!....my daughter is still stuck there and won’t bail until the housing market comes back...she lives in Montgomery county and pays $9000 in property tax...my wife and I were lucky; we got out in the Summer of ‘05 when the real estate market was still strong.

I’ve said for a long time that if our government wants to pretend that homosexuality is normal we need 4 types of restrooms, not 2. We need: Men (normal), Women (normal), Men (homosexual), Women (homosexual,i.e., lesbian). I guess I never really considered the nuts in the process of trying to change their bodies into something they are not.

If a majority of the citizens want to vote to make accommodation for people who feel uncomfortable in their native rest room that within the rights of the majority.

But the way they are doing it imposes an unfair burden on the privacy and safety of women.

A much better way, if they are intent on this course, is to have a small number of single stall, single sink unisex rest rooms. And there is an added benefit. There are a lot more parents who need to take a child of the opposite sex into the rest room than there trans gendered people any way.

Think about a father out with a young daughter - you don’t want to take her into the men’s room not can he go into the women’s room.

A few unisex rest rooms is a much better solution than what these people want.

I’ve shared bathrooms and locker rooms with lesbians with never the least problem. Much rather do that than have a male trannie come in.

It’s the men who get out of line, you know.

Think about a father out with a young daughter

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

When my oldest daughter was nearly 3, my husband took her for a swim at the local YMCA.

She kept repeating ( in the typical high pitch of toddlers ), “That man has a p*nis! That man has a p*nis!”
