President Bush has maintained neutrality but privately expresses exasperation with Romney's hard-line stance on immigration......Bush is upset Romney changed his position at the expense of the president's immigration reform. Bush and McCain are not close, but he's grateful for McCain's support on Iraq and immigration.
Florida Gov. Crist's unexpected late endorsement, which helped propel McCain to victory, was an unpleasant surprise to state Republican leaders. Crist had said he was not making an endorsement after shunning Giuliani's courtship and suggested that they also stay neutral. His support for McCain irked Republican activists who generally would have preferred former Romney. Romney carried heavily Republican Collier and Lee counties in SW Florida by substantial margins.....voters McCain will have to win over if nominated.

If that’s not an endorsement (unintended, to be sure) of Romney, I don’t know what is.
That’s the best pro-Romney statement Bush could have possibly made.
Bush is out to lunch when it comes to immigration.
Dubya shouldn't be too concerned. Stick around a bit and ole Multiple Choice Mitt will change his position several times.![]() |
Will conservatives who love this country and want to preserve it wake up too late to save it?
“Thats the best pro-Romney statement Bush could have possibly made.”
I’m GLAD BUSH is miffed.
Mitt wants to keep ILEGALS out.
Mitt is not a SMANESTY guy.
I hope BUSH campaigns with McPain in the arse.
Wow! Bush just gave Romney a forward push, albeit likely unintentional. I am no great fan of Romney, but I much prefer him to McInsane.
From your link:
“A footnote: The president’s younger brother, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, has not endorsed any presidential candidate. But he and his political allies were behind Romney’s losing effort in last Tuesday’s Florida primary.”
THat’s a FACT.
McCain is still for SMANESTY. And so are ALL the BUSHS’.
Notice there is no source for this.
Some people are so gullible.
Insurance in Massachusetts is among the most expensive in the nation because of multiple mandates, such as premium price controls and rules dictating that coverage be offered to all comers regardless of health...WSJ 2/2/2008

Romney claims to be a gun rights backer but cannot be a "true Second Amendment" supporter because he supports an assault weapons ban.

| We are now one of the largest Spanish-speaking nations in the world. We're a major source of Latin music, journalism and culture. Just go to Miami, or San Antonio, Los Angeles, Chicago or West New York, New Jersey ... and close your eyes and listen. You could just as easily be in Santo Domingo or Santiago, or San Miguel de Allende. For years our nation has debated this change -- some have praised it and others have resented it. By nominating me, my party has made a choice to welcome the new America. Our future cannot be separated from the future of Latin America. As I speak, we are celebrating the success of democracy in Mexico. George Bush from a campaign speech in Miami, August 2000. |
Here is an excerpt of a good critique of that speech:
In equating our intimate historic bonds to our mother country and to Canada with our ties to Mexico, W. shows a staggering ignorance of the civilizational facts of life. The reason we are so close to Britain and Canada is that we share with them a common historical culture, language, literature, and legal system, as well as similar standards of behavior, expectations of public officials, and so on. My Bush Epiphany By Lawrence Auster
If I were a GOP office holder running for re-election, I not so sure I’d want President Bush campaigning for me this year, given the level of Bush fatigue that there is out in the country.
this is ambiguous. At first I took it the way you did, but maybe it means they were for Romney.
Another stupid comment from this out of touch who has split the GOP. Thanks Jorge.
Who knew Jorge would do some much damage to the GOP.
When he ends up Prez. Right now, he's making the sale to the Base, and differentiating himself from McTraitor.
And seems to be doing a good job of mouthing the right words. And hiring Kris Kobach is great.
So the question is....if we all vote for him, will Mitt stay bought? Does he honor his contracts?
I don't know the answer to such questions. Having lived and worked in Salt Lake, I can't say I feel confident.
But in the debate the other day he referred to illegal aliens as...illegal aliens.
I haven't heard that out of the mouth of a major candidate in well over a decade.
It's a good sign.
Maybe Mitty doesn't have a shred of ideology in him other than being a good tither. But if he services his contracts faithfully, well...OK then.
Glad to see Mitt is against W’s immigration plan. W’s support for amnesty is the low point of his 8 years. Go Mitt!!
God who does McCain have a bigger crush on these days, Bush or hillary?
Important principles may and must be inflexible. — Abraham Lincoln
Including POSITIONS on those principles, Mitt.
Certainly makes up my mind.
I agree with your analysis. I believe it's honest. But then again, any Army officer will tell you...hope is not a plan.![]() |
I’m voting for Mitt Tuesday...

LOL look how short McCain is next to Bush and Bush is no giant. No wonder he hates Romney!! If you looked like McCain who wouldn’t be?
My daughter has that trouble, she is very pretty and the others girls don’t like to take her places, because all the boys try to hit on her. Guess it is the same with McCain and Huckster. Jealousy is a Bitch.
This guy:
Many of the people here are criticizing Mitt for the fact that when Mitt changed his viewpoints during his term of office, he still enforced some of the views on which he'd campaigned. He still governed to the right of his constituency.
Seriously, if a politician's views change to be at odds with his campaign platform, what should he do:
It seems to show that Bush supports him but that he changed direction to get elected. Kind of a back handed endorsement but hey congrats:’)
Even Liberal Jaun McClinton has gotten the message!
No he has not, the POS anyways says we must secure the border and when the governor sign off on his brown paper bag we can proceed. Of course the next part would be a comprehensive amnesty.
I will say this. McCain doesn’t look nearly as old and deformed as hillary looks up close.
Thank you, Mr. President, for reminding people of why we should avoid McCain like the plague and support Romney.
This is reason enough to vote for Romney, imho.
Ws support for amnesty is the low point of his 8 years.
&&&
Agreed. And it has greatly tainted his well-deserved record of excellence in protecting us from the terrorists.
This might explain President Bush’s surprise announcement that he’s attending CPAC next week, along with the surprising information that McCain is also attending.
If bush doesn’t like Mitt’s stance then it’s all the more reason to vote for Mitt! Thanks JORGE for pointing that out!
Okay, we get the message. YOU don’t like Romney. You can’t possibly be FOR McCain....
Huckabee just signed Jeff Sessions immigration pledge today. I think he will handle this problem differently as a President from what he did as a Governor. As a Governor he had to do what the federal government mandated as do all governors.
My biggest gripe with Bush has been the border issue, so I am very happy to see Huckabee sign the pledge.
Have any of the other candidates signed? Does anyone know? I did a search but didn’t find where anyone else has signed unless I missed it somewhere...lol
Bush forgets that it was not his Republican elites who put him and kept him in office, but millions of nobodies like us.
His elite buddies were the ones that advised him and mismanaged his campaigns, especially 2004, to the point where he almost gave away a sure landslide over a moron to a near loss.
Bush should not be miffed at Romney over immigration - it is we who should be miffed at Bush for the way he is trying to force illegal immigration down our throats so that his Chamber of Commerce and Wall Street buddies can have cheap labor and huge profits from that labor.
McCain stands up and tells middle class Americans that their lost jobs aren’t coming back and suck it up.
I’m looking forward to telling a defeated McCain that his job ain’t coming back and he should suck it up.
Why are all these prominent people our there PIMPING for McCain? Money, power, top positions or all of those mentioned?
Borders, language, culture.
Something McLame, Huckafeller, and Jorge don’t seem to understand.
Most politicians are a cross between Chameleons and shape shifters. You will never know exactly what they are because they are always changing. I bet Daddy Bush is proud of his little boy.
Which is just not acceptable to teh Establishment, country-club Republicans like Bush and McCain.
Great news! Go, Mitt!
