Victims Fight Back in Home Invasion (Las Vegas)
LasVegasNow ^ | Feb 1, 2008 | Jonathan Humbert

One robbery suspect is on the loose and another is in the hospital after four victims fought back.

Police say the four victims were barbecuing when two men with guns entered the home. One of the victims said he made a near-fatal mistake by leaving the garage door partially open. The victims, who do not want to be identified for safety reasons, say they ended up fighting for their lives and thought they might die.

"The look in their eyes, especially when they started beating us in the back of the heads with the guns. It was kind of like someone would torture a little animal and then joking about how they were going to love killing us," said one victim.

The men were pinned to the floor with shotguns. "It got ugly when they went back downstairs and decided to tell the women to undress their clothes," the victim added, "The girls were really crying and you could just tell that they were incredibly upset."

The victim told Eyewitness News that one of the suspects who was preparing to sexually assault the women turned his attention away from the guns and let down his guard.

The two male victims saw their opportunity.

"I grabbed him, threw him down on the ground, grabbed a weight from the weight set and smashed him in the head."

The women also joined in the fight, hitting the suspects with a frying pan.

"One of the girls completely nude managed to grab a gun and shoot the guy in the chest area and in the leg."

"She did what she had to do and I have to be thankful that she was able to do what she did and if she didn't I might not be able to give you this story right now."

The suspect who was shot has serious injuries and is in the hospital. The second suspect is on the run and as for the victims, they have minor injuries.

The police are very cautious not to make this seem like a heroic act. They say fighting back can sometimes end with the victims being more seriously hurt.

It sure seems like they did NOT want to give a description of the fugitive would-be rapist and killer. One draws the conclusion that the sheeply reporters, editors and police don’t want to stir up any tribal feelings.

More seriously hurt? The victims suspected they were to be killed. How much more seriously hurt can they get?
Dead victims can't sue the police department. If the police advocate fighting back and a sheeple dies then his family can sue.

It's all risk management.

The cops actually love it when a homeowner kills a perp(in his house so castle laws apply). No trial, a little paperwork and it's over.

"It's like they're required to mouth this foolishness as part of their press release contract or something."

They probably are.

Well, he should be easy to recognize. He’s got a chunk of his ear missing. http://www.ktnv.com/

At least these reporters aren’t giving it the police spin. They seemed to be enjoying the story.

The loathing of South Nevadans by North Nevadans is more acute than how NorCal people loathe SoCal people. Totally different culture and values. I'm sure you know that already.

Heck, you're more like a North Nevadan than a Californian of any type. The invisible cartographic boundary separating you and I denotes very little.

I would make good use of a wood chip shredder if I had caught any home invasion morons.

This is striking to me. I lived there for a time but never had this feeling of being this paranoid about an attack. Everyone should have a gun at home to protect themselves, you never know.

Just one More reason to enact the assault weapons ban, keep firearms out of the private homes and possession of Americans. After all, just dial 911 and the gummermit will be there to help/sarc off.

Question is, how prepared are you? Are you armed at home and while out? When your front door gets kicked in is not the time to start looking for a weapon.

Huh. Guess the loaded pistolas in various cabinets and closets throughout my house don't seem so weird now. Or the shotguns.

The dangerous machine guns, suppressors and black rifles are in the safe though.

Time to start wearing the pistola around the house.

you didn't prior to now?? :-))

More fun to have them stashed all over, loaded, ready to grab....even when driving the tractor around the field, or raking the leaves, etc etc. Come to think of it, wearing just one might be cheaper in the long run, but not as much adventurous. Bottom line, watch the approach, always.

By being raped and killed they would be morally superior to those who harm the misunderstood criminals!

/SARC

Does anybody remember the case in Tennessee? The four thugs (including one female) carjacked a young couple. They raped the male victim (presumably made the female victim watch) and them raped/tortured the female victim over the span of several days.

This could have been the results for the people in this story had they not fought back!

You are right. Most of us that live here in the Eastern Sierra feel more like northern Nevadans than Californians. Before 1857, we were part of Nevada.

We shop in Carson City and Reno and most of our “big city” contacts are there. My daughter was in the Nevada Day parade in in Cason City 2004 as part of her junior high activities.

One way to improve the outcome would have been for the woman who actually did the shooting to have said “The guy just kept coming ... he wouldn’t stop ... I had to keep shooting”.

the steel bars across my only entry door and my bedroom door just about insure I will not be woken up looking at at an attacker. I will get some warning as his crashing of an attempted entry alerts me to access one of more than a few defensive weapons and lights.

“When your front door gets kicked in is not the time to start looking for a weapon.”

When a liberal door is kicked in, they dial 911, and the other compliant sheep go to their home safe, spin the combination, take out a lock box, get the key, unlock the box, take out the pistol, unlock the trigger lock, put the pistol together, load the clip, rack a cartridge into the chamber............Hell your already beaten, robbed, raped and murdered!

Thank you fraternal order of Police Unions for supporting gun control, and restrictive firearm laws that only help the criminals.
