Victims Fight Back in Home Invasion (Las Vegas)
LasVegasNow ^ | Feb 1, 2008 | Jonathan Humbert

One robbery suspect is on the loose and another is in the hospital after four victims fought back.

Police say the four victims were barbecuing when two men with guns entered the home. One of the victims said he made a near-fatal mistake by leaving the garage door partially open. The victims, who do not want to be identified for safety reasons, say they ended up fighting for their lives and thought they might die.

"The look in their eyes, especially when they started beating us in the back of the heads with the guns. It was kind of like someone would torture a little animal and then joking about how they were going to love killing us," said one victim.

The men were pinned to the floor with shotguns. "It got ugly when they went back downstairs and decided to tell the women to undress their clothes," the victim added, "The girls were really crying and you could just tell that they were incredibly upset."

The victim told Eyewitness News that one of the suspects who was preparing to sexually assault the women turned his attention away from the guns and let down his guard.

The two male victims saw their opportunity.

"I grabbed him, threw him down on the ground, grabbed a weight from the weight set and smashed him in the head."

The women also joined in the fight, hitting the suspects with a frying pan.

"One of the girls completely nude managed to grab a gun and shoot the guy in the chest area and in the leg."

"She did what she had to do and I have to be thankful that she was able to do what she did and if she didn't I might not be able to give you this story right now."

The suspect who was shot has serious injuries and is in the hospital. The second suspect is on the run and as for the victims, they have minor injuries.

The police are very cautious not to make this seem like a heroic act. They say fighting back can sometimes end with the victims being more seriously hurt.

That to me is a problem with my (outside) family. They keep the guns and ammo seperated. I have 18 rounds loaded including the chamber and the safety is OFF.

LEO & FLEA Pubic Affairs Officers are Sock Puppets......ignore em . They spew the Chiefs political agenda vs the real cops attitudes. Patrolmen were slapping these folks on the back I’d bet with respect. I’ll bet that chief doesn’t tell his street cops to not resist so they don;t get hurt........:o)

We have no small children in our home, I am within arms reach right now of a 1911A1 w/ 6 spare mags in a small wooden case on the desk and a SOCOM 16 M1A loaded with federal match.

My CHL rig is worn at home or a small Mod 37 Airweight .38 is in my pocket when home as well. 3 Rotts and a few other items stashed around the casa will cause these weenies some grief.

We never let a repairman or a deliveryman into our home. Half of em are recon IMO. When I was a Deputy Sheriff I encountered code on folks curbs that had slashes and X’s......slash for how many cars were in the driveway or parked in front at night and X’s for how many were gone during the day. If the home’s code curb had all X’s we watched it like a hawk and caught a few in progress.

This trash is good at dumpster diving for that new computer or LCD HD TV box, or doing drivebys on open garage full of tools and sporting gear, ATV’s boat etc .........

Sad state of affairs but unless ya decide to take responsibility for your own then one is just waiting till they win the Oh Crap Lottery !

Too easy to safely carry a small handgun these days......... Our great grandparents did it. History repeats itself .

“Oddly,” no description of the fugitive perp was given.

The Las Vegas Review Journal version omitted any description of the would-be rapists as well. The commenters on that site were complaining about this omission and then one linked to another site which included the following:

Police said the victims were forced to the ground by two black men who were armed with shotguns.

It's like it's a state secret or something that the armed fugitive is black!

I suppose the police are trained to repeat that blather, you hear it all of the time, but a gun in hand is better than a cop on 911..

These are the smae guys that "hut, hut, hut" in the parking lots of Columbine and VTECH.

The police of the Dragnet era are dead and buried.

All that remain are Union members.

As I look over to the corner at the M1 Tac Benelli with extended tube, I know 100% I will fight.

nope just prepared. do you know what it is like to be woken at 3am or so staring up from bed at a rather large man? you have no Idea who he is, why he is there, what he wants? (other than evil you might guess).I have. it will not happen again. I wasn’t given time to get to the one weapon I had at that time either. not fun to remember.

Had the cops shown up at the Chicago Lane Bryant, they’d be in the parking eating pizza waiting for the bad guys to run out of ammo.

My wife ha fixed several SWAT members that discharged their ARs into their own calves when the go thru windows!

THE REPORTER MADE UP THAT COMMENT.

His email link is at the story. We need to ask him who exactly made that comment. It's not attributed to any police officer.

Thankfully I made it to that point where the worst problem is going to be “which one” rather than “I wish I had one”...

I don’t post what my readiness is on the forum.
