U.S. close to decision on polar bears

It could be the first species to be listed as threatened with extinction primarily because of global warming.

The Bush administration is nearing a decision that would officially acknowledge the environmental damage of global warming, and name its first potential victim: the polar bear.

The Interior Department may act as soon as this week on its year-old proposal to make the polar bear the first species to be listed as threatened with extinction because of melting ice due to a warming planet.

Both sides agree that conservationists finally have the poster species they have sought to use the Endangered Species Act as a lever to force federal limits on the greenhouse gases linked to global warming, and possibly to battle smokestack industry projects far from the Arctic.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others," said Kassie Siegel, an attorney with the nonprofit Center for Biological Diversity. "And then there is the polar bear."

Even Frank Luntz, the political consultant who advised President Bush six years ago to focus on discrediting the science of global warming and refer to it as "climate change," has recognized the bear's potency. In an interview on the environmental website Grist.org, he said the public has a "soft side" for the bear.

***********************Major Point********************

Federal government scientists have presented increasingly compelling evidence that the top predator at the top of the world is doomed if the polar regions get warmer and sea ice continues to melt as forecast.

But in fact the Artic Ocean Ice has returned.....

Poppycock........there are more polar bears now than in 1950. We all know what this is and I’ll be plenty PO’d if the Bush Adminstration lets this through. Plenty PO’d. That’s putting it mildly, for not wanting to be offensive on FR.

Just do like Clinton said and slow our economy down to stop Global Warming and we can save the bears. I’m sure some major wealth redistribution plans would also help stop global warming.

If libs wanna help the bears they should go up and feed themselves to the bears. Its a win-win. Bears get to eat and the carbon footprint of these folks is eliminated.

Back in the 1950s they said there was something around 5000 or so polar bears. Today their numbers are about 50,000. The polar bear is thriving in today’s climate. More are surviving. A factor of ten increase in their numbers over 60 years is not a species that is endangered.

Facts never bother liberals. They gloss over anything not furthering the agenda. Facts get in the way. Just watch Algore’s movie. He doesn’t mind trashing facts and lying about what’s going on.

Don't you understand, there's a crisis! We have to do something about SOMETHING, even if it's all manufactured, we can't just sit her and do nothing!

If we don't do SOMETHING, people will see it's all been a farce and we'll lose our grants and power to control peoples lives!

So away with your facts, we have a crusade to save mankind from....uh....Something!

Plus, it’s well known that polar bears do not ‘get stranded’ on ice blocks and are helpless if they’re on one. They are great swimmers, and enjoy it. They can swim miles and miles if they have to.

No, WE would be the ones trapped and deserving of “poor, poor human” if WE got caught on a ice chunk that broke off and was floating around in the arctic, NOT the polar bear.

Envirowacks are so ignorant.

Will they ban the ice breaker vessels that are chopping up the bears’ habitat and causing most of the ice recession during the melting seasons?

U.S. close to decision on polar bears

Hurry up and decide, because global cooling is just starting! If you wait too long, the poor bears will become confused as to their status!

You know a more accurate rallying cry for these wack jobs, instead of “IT’S GLOBAL WARMING!” would be:

“IT’S NATURE!” “WE MUST STOP NATURE!” Because it is nature doing all this. An equally good one would be: “THE SUN! WE MUST STOP THE SUN!” Because the sunspot/electrical cycles of the sun heat and cool the earth and affect our patterns here more than anything else.

These guys are such morons. They think they are just so smart with their tiny, imperfect, doomsday computer models and getting themselves all ‘hysterical’ (because they are acting like scared little girls) and trying to get us to believe in the monster under the bed like they do.

They should ban all the environut boat tours to these areas because the morons tend to run into icebergs and contaminate the waters with fuel oil when their boats sink...

Well, it’s all a bunch of lies, but the bureaucracy only moves in one direction. If this stupid idiocy is passed, it will never be undone.

Very, very disappointing. Does Bush think the environmentalists will give him any credit for this? Did they give him any credit for his stupid ethanol proposal?

Of course not.

Communists, socialists, envirowackos and politicians are NEVER satisfied, no matter how much you give them or how much you concede. You are spot-on — once this is passed, I’m not sure it would ever be undone, no matter how much damage is done to our economy, how much our lifestyles are reduced and how many of our liberties are yielded up.
