I have written repeatedly on Willard Mitt Romneys serial flip-flops. Mitt is the born-again supply-sider who today swears he never raised taxes, even though he increased taxes and fees $983 million as Massachusetts governor. He is 2008s stalwart defender of traditional values and man-woman marriage who, in 2002, distributed a hot-pink flyer among Bostons gay community that read: Mitt and Kerry Wish You A Great Pride Weekend! All citizens deserve equal rights, regardless of their sexual preference. (Kerry Healey was the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor.) Romney is the Second Amendment enthusiast who brags about being a life-member of the National Rifle Association life beginning in August 2006 who said in 1994, I dont line up with the NRA.
Pick nearly any topic, and you will find the new and old Romneys as far apart as two pugilists in opposite corners of a boxing ring, ready to knock each others lights out.
But nothing prepared me for Romneys most amazing flip flop of all. Somehow, I missed it, despite months of researching his bipolar record.
During CNNs January 30 debate from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, Romney said, one of the two great regrets I have in life is I didnt serve in the military. Id love to have. This echoes what he told the Boston Globe last June 24. I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam. Now, as works with almost any subject, search Google or Nexis for Romney and Vietnam and any date before 2004, when he got serious about pursuing the 2008 GOP nomination.

Mc Shame’s hanging around?
Geez...take it easy Cindy...go grab a bottle and bash some of your friends this morning instead of posting here..
I’m not a huge fan of Romney, but the simple truth is that gays DO have the same rights as anyone else (just not special ones), and if people are not going to vote for him because he believes that, then we are cutting our throats.
Indeed, when an older man is asked to list something he regrets, if you get a straight answer from him, it will usually be something that earlier in his life he felt and acted differently about. That's kind of what it means to regret, doesn't it?
Seems to me that this is yet another case of Mitt at least being fairly straight about his changes.
One could doubt the timing and cause of these changes of mind, and from that raise doubts as to how well Mitt would stand tall in an issue of importance in the future.
But if I have to choose between a man who has flopped on several issues just once on each issue, each time closer to my position, and is being half way honest about that change of mind, versus a man (or so-called woman) who to this day holds firm to positions I am diametrically opposed to, and lies about it to boot, I'll likely choose the former.
Voting for Mitt Tuesday!
What do you expect from a Mass liberal?
Reagan understood that you play geopolitical games with handsfull of professional soldiers and soldiers of fortune and petty cash, and not with hundreds of thousands of draftees and giant sums of treasure. The people responsible for Vietnam NEEDED to understand that. There were no good choices to be had at the time of the Vietnam war and most people don’t really give a rat’s *** about what anybody was doing at the time so long as it wasn;t outright treasonous as in the cases of Jane Fonda or SlicKKK KKKlinton.
don’t forget that Romney also favored campaign spending limits and abolishing all PACS. Much more radical than McCain feingold.

Don’t vote for him.
Mitt’s a slickmeister who’s more worried about his hair than defense.
McCain ain’t perfect by a long stretch, but he makes Mitt (Never saw a mandate I don’t like) look like a teenager with all the wild dreams.
Get realistic. There’s the ‘Massachussetts governor’ Mitt and the ‘I’m running for Prez’ Mitt. It’s nto just this, it’s a whole bunch of issues.
We all slammed Kerry for being a flip flopper, and rightfully so. Be consistent with your criticism, don’t flip flop yourself!
Just another hit piece. Vote Romney tomorrow if you are living in a Super Tuesday state. Your last chance to stop McInsane.
Still doent come close to McScum pushing amnesty but now saying hes tough on the borders.
Well Reagan certainly didn't use draftees as the draft had ended in '73 but he certainly "played" with more than a handful of marines in Lebanon.
Then why are you voting for Mitt?
“I really dont recall thinking about political positions when I was knocking at the door in France” as a missionary, Romney said. “I was supportive of my country. I longed in many respects to actually be in Vietnam and be representing our country there and in some ways it was frustrating not to feel like I was there as part of the troops that were fighting in Vietnam.”
that is referring to the feeling he allegedly had at that time
