How is it possible to train the successor for your job, when the company is leaving the country for cheaper labor?

Representatives for American Express are apparently now residing in New Delhi.

At least it seems so to me when I had to call for some billing problems.

The foreigner is brought here by the company that is leaving here. Of course Her Thighness fails to tell you why the company is leaving.

Taxes are too high.
Odds are it’s a union controlled company that has driven the company to the verge of bankruptcy.
Slip and fall John Edwards types camp out on the companys door step.
Regulation, litigation, and taxation. A business’s biggest enemy.

No, the JOB was moving to another country. I can tell you how you train someone in another country to take over your job, because I had to do it, too. It’s called NetMeeting and teleconferences. It’s still a VERY sore point with me, because I lost my job with a company that I’d been at for 28-1/2 years to outsourcing. This was after a number of raises, transfers, and promotions, taking progressively more responsibility. I was pretty close to earning full retirement benefits when they laid me off, too.

And they ended up hiring me back, if you have questions about my performance being a factor in their decision.

I think that a big bank that is moving a call center to the Pillipines is also sending employees to get things started over there, training and all.

Hope that clears the question up some for you.

I trained my successors, they were all from Brazil.

Shhhh...you're not supposed to ask questions like that. Pretty soon you'll find out that neither of these people exist.

Knowing a couple of people this happened to, in some cases the training is done via teleconference between here and, say, India. In other cases the foreign workers who are taking the jobs come here for training.

And the company typically has the employee in a box. Do the training or no severance package, etc. In other words, the employees are screwed royally.

They fly the designated slave laborer over from India (or wherever) for a few weeks to suck your brain dry. When that process is complete, they fly him back overseas and you get laid off.

It's happening in my company right now.

Hillary hasn't the faintest clue what to do about that, and if anything, her nostrums will make the disease worse ... much worse.
