Boycott National Businesses that operate in Berkeley (Vanity)
Berkeley Chamber Of Commerce ^ | 2/5/2008 | self

Posted on 02/05/2008 7:12:53 AM PST by tobyhill

While we should respect free speech for all, Berkeley City Council stepped over the line when they endorsed harassment of Marines performing their lawful and required duties. Because of their actions there must be consequences and it must hit them where it hurts, the wallet. The link is to the Berkeley Chamber of Commerce Directory and some businesses are nationwide. Before going out shopping please check the list and try to avoid any businesses that have operations in Berkeley. Also drop them a line explaining the reasons for no longer doing business with them. Berkeley will never admit it hurts them but the truth is it will.

Well, I had planned on buying some bongs, tie-dye shirts, incense and anti-war T-shirts but I am willing to forgo those purchases in order to punish their main industries.

I’m sure McDonalds has some franchises there. I can’t stand their “food” and surly “service” anyway. Why not boycott them?

I’ve sent a lot of e-mails with no response back. They’re getting the message and they’ll get it more from their business community.

Can’t we narrow this - maybe to companies based there or started there?

There have to be a hundred companies that be covered if we try to boycott companies with a store there.

It’s not easy to boycott national companies but it can be done because there’s always alternatives and I will seek out the alternatives.

I would think concentrating on just a few of the main companies that have outlets in Berkley would be most effective?

For ex: here’s the link to ACE Hardware with email and phone link -

If two or three of the biggie outfits that do business in Berkley get lots of noise - they will likely contact Berkley City Council =

They - the council - are already reeling from the blow-back of their stupidity. They live in a moonbat bubble and were under the impression the rest of the world thought as they do.

What a shock to their system.

I wonder if we could find a list of who the biggest employers in Berkely are and see who is vulnerable to boycott?

Anyway that one feels can hurt Berkeley’s bottom line is ok. Since ACE operates in Berkeley I will not shop at ACE, I will find an alternative.

Unfortunately there are businesses that contractually obligated to do business in Berkeley. Instead of trying to boycott every business why not target your boycotts to businesses that support this anti-military mentality and strongly support those businesses that fully support the military. It would be unfortunate to boycott and inflict financial damage to the Mom and Pop business that supports the military. Show your support for these pro-military businesses with your pocketbook.

Comcast is one of their biggest. I know it will be almost impossible for everyone to avoid Comcast but if enough people have alternatives and they change it will make Comcast think about the services they provide to Berkeley.

...hmmm....is Berkeley reconsidering or just trying to quibble their way out?

PS...check out the “comments” section at the end of the article....plenty of San Franciscans think Berkely is nuts too!

Ha! The Chamber of Commerce changed the message that was displayed on their front page too. It still says that they support the armed forces, but where it previously said it had nothing to do with the city council decision, it now says that everyone should have a voice.

Methinks they got rapped for trying to separate themselves from the city council, and they bent over. Based on the first message I was still prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt, but now, no way. They are part of this and should feel the pressure as well.

Ack - I can’t live without Comcast...

Can we find something that everyone can easily substitute. Like a gas station or retail or a luxury vendor... Comcast has monopolies in many areas - here you either get a cable modem from them or you get no good high speed internet at all.

Berkeley has been the hippie haven for a long time now so as far as I’m concerned any business in Berkeley is fair game. There maybe businesses in Berkeley that support the military and it’s unfortunate if they get financially hurt for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Berkeley has “successfully” driven out large employers and productive business long ago. They have really rendered themselves boycott-proof. The largest employer, by far, is the University of California. Everybody else is a very little fish.
