Exit Poll: McCain, Romney nearly tied in California (Edge to McCain?)
CNN ^ | 2/6/08 | none

Looks like McCain is up about 2-3%. He leads among men, 41-35. Romney leads among women, 38-34. Here's how stupid Californians are: Giuliani is getting about 5%.

This is NOT a winner-take-all state. Rather, it's like 53 separate elections, one in each congressional district. What's outrageous is that some districts have 20 times more Republicans than others. My fear is that McCain will win these. Either way, the battle will last for months to come.

I goofed: I used CNN for the source of the link, but I named USA Today. Can you fix that?

A big problem in California is that early absentee ballots began on Jan 7.

I’d very surprised if Romney wins California. He’s been smoked all over the country tonight.

It looks like it’s time to shift gears and get behind Huckabee.

McCain looks to carry-(8) AZ,CT,DE,IL,MO,NY,NJ,OK
Romney looks to carry-(6) CO,MA,MN,MT,ND,UT
Huck looks to carry-(5) AL,AR,GA,TN,WV

Romney has a good chance to win in AK.

CA will be the big prize. Early votes are absentees (military votes?) giving McCain an early lead. Be hilarious to see Romney tie McCain in number of states carried.

Is that the reason why McLame is up so much in CA?

So your saying Huckabee won more delegates than Romney?

Interesting breakdown. In general, non-church goers and abortionists like McCain. Weekly church goers and right to lifers like Romney. Extreme right to lifers and more than weekly church goers like Huckabee.

Those who like RINO Arnold like RINO McCain. Those who don't like Romney.

Possible outcome of a 2008 election with a

third party run
Possible outcome of a 2008 election with a third party run against the McCain-Huckabee-Soros-Clinton-Obama Cabal.

There are a lot of angry conservatives tonight who were denied their third choice.

For all Romney's faults, he's shown himself to be a man of class and decency who doesn't delight in pi**ing on the base. He's also shown he can organize, raise money and compete.

A third party candidacy could result in a deadlocked election where McCain-Huckabee would have to make meaningful concessions to win. At the very least, it would give conservatives someone to show up and vote for at the top of the ticket to save conservatives down ticket.

Intensity of blue(R)/red(D)/green(3) shades indicate probable percent of vote.

Hardly. He wasn’t supposed to win the South anyway, it’s just McCain won less than Huckabee, which wasn’t projected. West Virginia was a definate loss, and Missouri you could consider too.

I heard about 40% were early votes, 60% turned out today.

Exit polls show Romney ahead on turnout today, but McCain for early voting.

But most of the delegates are assigned by congressional district, so we really need to know the district-by-district numbers.

The Guiliani votes are most likely absentee ballots. But you probably knew that, right, dangus? Real clear politics has McCain way up right now in CA. And Hillary, too. Go Hillary!

I could hold my nose and vote for McCain. I could not vote for Huckabee — I remember Jimmy Carter all too well, and Huckabee has all of Carter’s faults/naivete/ignorance without his virtues. (well, he didn’t have any, but....)

But come to think of it, it makes sense... Why else are there so many votes for Giuliani?
