At the moment, he's winning only the 21st district (Fresno, Tulare), and the 49th (Inland north SD and Riverside). He's close in the 42nd and 48th (Orange) and in the 50th and 52nd (San Diego).
I’m going to have to re-register as Republican. I am currently registered as independent and was told previously that independents could vote for any candidates in primaries, regardless of the candidate’s party affiliation.
I agree. I lived in GA for a couple of years and was very dissatisfied with the crossover voting. It seemed dishonest to me.
That isn’t the point. The point is that there is something seriously screwy, maybe illegal, going on.
I have not seen the breakout of mccain vs romny in SD, but pre -primary polling here showed romny by a large margin.
Regardless of who would have run, the point is that the Republican vote in California has been compromised, and all of the candidates should be outraged. Though I suspect McCain will be as dismissive as several of the posters on this thread.
This is nothing less than clear vote tampering. Someone needs to go to prison for this. I’d be just as outraged if it was done to the other party.

Did it actually have the Republican Presidential candidates on it? If so, they screwed-up. Independents were allowed to vote in the Democratic primary, but not the Republican primary.
The most likely cause is a computer pattern or incompetence within the registrar's office. But that would be too simple. BTW SD county registrar is not exactly held up as the national ideal.

BTW, 20% of the 250,000 GOP votes cast in San Deigo county alone was 50,000 disenfranchised voters.

Vote fraud is vote fraud. Doesn't matter who does it or why. It should not matter where or against whome. Attitudes like yours are why this country is going down the toilet.
Not only that, the woman ahead of me at the polling place was annoyed and angry that they had listed her as Democrat and she had registered Republican. I also notice they had LOTS of those pink change of party status forms.
This stinks to high heaven.
I’m registered as non-partisan. The poll worker asked me which ballot I wanted. I received a republican ballot when I asked for it.

Closed Primary System
A “closed” primary system governed California’s primary elections until 1996. In a closed primary, only persons who are registered members of a political party may vote the ballot of that political party.
Open Primary System
The provisions of the “closed” primary system were amended by the adoption of Proposition 198, an initiative statute approved by the voters at the March 26, 1996 primary election. Proposition 198 changed the closed primary system to what is known as a “blanket” or “open” primary, in which all registered voters may vote for any candidate, regardless of political affiliation and without a declaration of political faith or allegiance.
On June 26, 2000, the United States Supreme Court issued a decision in California Democratic Party, et. al. v. Jones, stating that California’s “open” primary system, established by Proposition 198, was unconstitutional because it violated a political party’s First Amendment right of association. Therefore, the Supreme Court overturned Proposition 198.
Modified Closed Primary System
California currently has a “modified” closed primary system. SB 28 (Ch. 898, Stats. 2000), relating to primary elections, was chaptered on September 29, 2000 and took effect on January 1, 2001. SB 28 implemented a “modified” closed primary system that permits unaffiliated (”decline to state”) voters to participate in a primary election if authorized by an individual party’s rules and duly noticed by the Secretary of State.

It appears yes, if a voter registered Independent can contest it, get a provisional ballot and vote for a Republican. Works for any 'Independent', whether true or mislabeled.
Are you claiming that all electees are appointed? And our votes have NEVER mattered? If you are, you may be on the wrong forum.

As Primaries Begin, the FEC Will Shut Down
No Quorum on Election Board As Nominees Stall in Congress
The federal agency in charge of policing the torrent of political spending during the upcoming presidential primaries will, for all practical purposes, shut its doors on New Year’s Eve.
The Federal Election Commission will effectively go dark on Jan. 1 because Congress remains locked in a standoff over the confirmation of President Bush’s nominees to the panel. As a consequence, the FEC will enter 2008 with just two of six members — short of the four votes needed for the commission to take any official action.
“There is, in effect, nobody to answer the phone,” said Robert F. Bauer, a leading Democratic campaign finance lawyer.
Although the 375 auditors, lawyers and investigators at the FEC will continue to process work already before them, a variety of matters that fall to the commissioners will be placed on hold indefinitely. Chief among them are deciding whether to launch investigations into possible campaign finance violations and determining the penalties.
