Red Devil 232 | 2-6-08 | Red Devil 232

Posted on 02/06/2008 6:51:08 PM PST by Red_Devil 232

I have posted these videos on the other threads in responce to the Berkley anti - Marine stance. It is a recruting commercial put out by the Marine Corps. The first link is to the commmercial. The other links are to videos of the locations where the film was made. They have interviews with the Marines and with the Americans who love and respect them. Take some time and watch a few and don't blame me if you feel good!

This is a quote from Debbie lee

Our military defends your freedoms and has written a blank check to you and your city and every American and they have told you to fill in the cost of that freedom up to and including the cost of their lives and you are telling these people they are not welcome in your city? How dare you!

Please at least watch the first video. The others are just as inspiring!

Yes they were denied to shoot in SF. So they went to a point owned by the American people and proceded to their duity. Protecting those who would be against them.

In September 1967, the squadron returned once again to MCAS El Toro and painted the Red Devil insignia on their new McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantoms. Re-designated as Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 232, the squadron returned to MCAS Iwakuni, Japan, as a MIG-alert squadron and subsequently deployed to Da Nang, Vietnam, and Nam Phong, Thailand. Here they continued to fly air-to-ground sorties in addition to playing a key fighter role in Operation LINEBACKER missions over North Vietnam. The only "last" in VMFA-232's history occurred on 1 September 1973, as the Red Devils became the last Marine squadron to leave Southeast Asia.

Check this out; here is a letter a businessman wrote to the Mayor of Berkeley. Is this a great country or what?

Dear Mayor Bates,

In that you and your city have chosen to gravely insult the brave men and women, who have indeed bought you that right with their blood, I am informing you that my company will no longer do business with any of our current suppliers located in the Berkeley,
California metro area.

In that my company is in international resort real estate development, and do business with and am associated with, developers and investors worldwide, I am informing all of my contacts, associates and patrons that we will no longer do any business of any sort with anyone
living in the Berkeley area.

In that we/MDG Resorts are currently building a state of the art mega-yacht marina, all of the suppliers of Marina equipment, all owners of Yachts, all suppliers of Yacht materials & supplies, all yacht brokers and all tangential yacht business purveyors will likewise be
informed that we will not do any business whatsoever with anyone from the Berkeley area.

Likewise all suppliers of building materials, both interior and exterior, currently associated with any of our several resort developments (Brisamar 300+ villas and 200+ condos:
Porto Hussong, www.portohussong.com 500+ condos, 180 slip mega-yacht marina) both of which I might add have international recognition by virtue of glowing reports in Robb Report, Wall Street Journal, Yacht World, Forbes.

I will likewise inform all of our investors, most of whom are very wealthy yacht owners, casino owners, high net worth international businessmen, of our decision to essentially boycott all products and providers located in, or associated with in any way whatsoever, Berkeley,
Ca.

Trust me when I say that having been in the real estate development business for over 35 years, our
list of contacts and associates is long and very, very impressive. We, and I personally, are going to
recommend that they ALL along with us boycott your city, its purveyors, suppliers, and businesses and CHARITIES of every kind.

You have every right to choose to take the obnoxious anti-military stance you have taken, and as stated, that right was bought for you with the blood of better men than you.

I too have every right to do all that I can to insure that your city suffers consequences arising
from that obnoxious, sickening stance.

Cordially,

We flew E/W ops over the Gulf up north for ARCLIGHT and LINEBACKER and others....anything that could be thought up.

BigLook A/C were EC-121s but we were upgraded to EP-3s, callsign, DeepSee and had EA-3s, callsign BlackTrack. Flew on all three.

MIGCAP and BARCAP would drop by for a visit....I remember your tail.

Thanks for posting that. I particularly liked the one at the museum in Quantico which I visited last summer and found to be terrific. This is a good time to remind everyone that 40 years ago this very day the Marines were in Hue retaking the city which the communists treacherously occupied during the Tet truce which they had signed. The Marines were vastly outnumbered, the weather was bad and no helicopter logistical support was available. All the bridges were blown and no land convoys could provide support. I distinctly remember thinking that those of us who were there were privileged Marines because Dan Daly and Chesty Puller and all those legendary Marines from before had endowed us with a secret weapon, and we knew it. Not often mentioned when Hue is talked about is the interesting fact that our regimental commander, Colonel Stanley Hughes, had earned a Navy Cross as an enlisted Marine on Guadalcanal. He earned another there in Hue as we earned a Presidential Unit Commendation to grace our Battle Flag. I’ll tell you, friends, if you ever have to fight, I hope you get to do it as Marines, or at least with some Marines at your side. You won’t get to have Colonel Hughes to show you the way, but I’ll guarantee you’ll get some officers and enlisted Marines just like him who know what a few Marines can do when things look grim.

We lost one F4-J Phantom over Laos to a Mig. The Pilot and RIO ejected after a dog fight and being hit by an Air-Air from a MIG. The Pilot was rescued but to this day the RIO is still a MIA. Our call sign was Whisky Tango.

My father was a career Marine (25 years, WWII, Korea) he was one of the first four to achieve the rank of E-9 Master Gunnery Sgt. I think it was only four others that received the rank at that same time. In 1963 he retired and along with a hand full of other retired military men he was recruited by the U.S. State Department and they operated under USAID as advisers to the Laotian Army and Air Force. We were in Savannakhet, Laos when Hue and the Tet offensive took place.

Three years later I was laying in a bunk at Paris Island and saying "Good Night Chesty Puller"!

My Mother and Father were still in Laos when I was sent to Danang.

He never said a word or had advice about what I was going to experience at Paris Island. I am glad he didn't.

Just heard between the time I wrote this and receiving your post that my son and his house mate are heading to sniper school up at Quantico in March. I know he wanted this and he might still have enough time to get another school in before the next deployment.
