An Inconvenient Truth

Posted on 02/07/2008 1:29:18 PM PST by Tai_Chung

My daughter has to do a report in 9th grade Biology based on the book "An Inconvenient Truth" by Al Gore.

Can anyone recommend sources that disprove it?

You need to be calling the superintendent’s office to find out why propaganda is being taught to children.

Did her teacher show the other point of view? I thought not. This is not the way education is supposed to work.

The Newsweek article from 1978 about global cooling would be worth a mention. Show how agendas are constantly being showered on the public.

Google “global warming hoax” for starters.

Richard S. Lindzen wrote in a June 26, 2006 op-ed in the Wall Street Journal that Gore was using a biased presentation to exploit the fears of the public for his own political gain. [75] Roy Spencer wrote an open letter to Gore criticizing his presentation of climate science in the film, asserting that the Arctic had a similar temperature in the 1930s before the mass emissions of carbon dioxide began.[76] Timothy F. Ball rejected Gore’s claim that there has been a sharp drop-off in the thickness of the Arctic ice cap since 1970, stating that the data was taken only from an isolated area of the Arctic and during a specific cooling period.[77] William Gray said of the movie: "We're brainwashing our children. They're going to the Gore movie [An Inconvenient Truth] and being fed all this. It's ridiculous."[78] While discussing the companion book to the movie Gray said, "This is a slick propaganda book. The pictures are very good. But there are factual errors."[79] A March 13, 2007 article in The New York Times reported on concerns among some scientists about the tone and the accuracy of the film, noting that they "argue that some of Mr. Gore’s central points are exaggerated and erroneous". Gore's discussion of a rise in sea level of up to 20 feet, while not stating a timeframe, appears in contrast with a report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which predicts a maximum rise of 23 inches this century, excluding non-linear effects on ice sheets; although that too discusses the possibilities of higher rises if the ice sheets melt. The article also states that "a report last June by the National Academies seemed to contradict Mr. Gore’s portrayal of recent temperatures as the highest in the past millennium."[6] The article quotes both defenders and critics of the film; Gore responds that scientists may disagree with him on some details, "but we do agree on the fundamentals."[6]

If you have the time before this is due,

write TWO reports.

One regurgitating the bullsht that the teacher wants to see, and the other refuting everything. The latter needs to be footnoted and sourced down to the gnat’s eyelash.

Turn them both in, see what they get for grades, then raise a stink when the regurgitation piece gets a good grade and the other does not.

Expose the indoctrination agenda of public school teachers.

It would also be good to get a hold of the list of “accredited climatologists” that Gore cites in his book. It turns out some of them aren’t even climatologists...they’re music professors, business profs, etc.

There is no point prior to about 1800 at which I'd not have preferred having a longbow in my hands to any extant firearm; the bow was more accurate and had 15 times the rate of fire.

Ever wonder why Europeans including the English started using firearms as early as 1500?? Basically, as armor got heavier, the English archery groups had started looking increasingly like the offensive line of an NFL football team, i.e. all 300 pounders, which is what you needed to be pulling 100-lb bows.

Then the medieval climate optimum gave out and gave way to the "little ice age", and nobody had the food supplies to produce archers that strong any more. That's a hell of a big climate change and humans had no more to do with it than they do with anything which might be going on now.

A must read is Bjorn Lomborg’s book “ Cool It”. He believes that the earth is warming, but that the world’s reaction to it is ridiculous. He also makes many comments in the book talking about how incorrect Al Gore is and about many mistakes in the movie, “Inconvenient Truth”. It is a fairly short book and and easy read with a lot of references.

Excellent UK documentary shown in it’s entirety on you tube entitled “The Great Global Warming Swindle”. Go to youtube.com and search on the title. Have the popcorn ready.
This should be required in all public schools (as Inconvenient Truth is - my daughter has been shown it TWICE!) as a counterpoint. Watch it together.

The University of Alabama-Huntsville and Remote Sensing Systems reported that the January 2008 Global temperature anomaly reported by their satellites was negative .044 degrees centigrade. In the Northern Hemisphere the anomaly (deviation from the 30 year average) was negative .11 degrees centigrade, the largest deviation from the average for any single month in over 10 years. This information is unlikely to be reported by the mainstream media. The link is also available at http://www.john-daly.com/ although the graphs are not being updated anymore.
