Issue: Having been slapped down by the U. S. Supreme Courts recent decision that the words navigable waters in the Clean Water Act limited federal agencies to regulation of navigable waters only. Democrats and liberal Republicans in Congress are striking back.
They are attempting to pass the Clean Water Restoration Act of 2007 (HR2421 and S1870) that would amend the 1972 Clean Water Act and replace the words navigable waters with waters of the United States. Further, it defines "waters of the United States" with such breathtaking scope that federal agencies would be required to regulate use of every square inch of the U.S., both public and private.

Besides private property, it threatens grazing, forestry, mining and many other uses on Federal land.
In one sense, many of us have ourselves to thank, for sitting home in ‘06. Maybe Dubya will veto.
I wish someone would keel-haul Nancy Pelosi and her ilk. Give them a REAL freshwater tour.
Or, worse, just hitting the head.
First it’s control of food. Then control our water. Then our guns. Then our liberty.
This is no Republic. This is tyranny.
THese kinds of rules and laws are never applied fairly and uniformly over the entire population. The average joe always gets screwed. THe bigshots always have an “inside man” to help them out and smooth things over.
It’s already happening.
During the drought this summer a friend’s uncle had cattle that were dying. He took a bulldozer and widened up a small spring on his property so they could get to water. Someone who saw what was happening from a nearby highway reported him to the EPA or some such alphabet govt. agency. After a visit by some snot nosed 20 something kid he was ordered to restore the “pristine waters”.
They didn’t give a rat’s behind about the cattle or the private property rights.
So who among us thinks that electing a liberal Republican to the WH is going to change the status quo; the leftward shift of the party?
We have to think about this as a prelude to something else planned by these Liberals, otherwise WHY? What is the purpose of this? There is a goal this action is only a part of something else.
There was talk in Houston about taxing the rain that falls on our property, the more property you own, the more rain tax you would have to pay to provide for the storm sewers and treatment of that water. Nevermind that we already pay property tax for that purpose. In Austin, there was talk that you would not be permitted to collect rain water as they think it belongs to LCRA. In governments’ world, my rain is taxable because there is an abundance, in Austin, where rain can be scarce, it’s governments rain. I don’t think either of these ideas got any traction, thank God. But it makes me wonder, is there a big convention somewhere that local/regional government attends where they pass around “creative” tax ideas? It sure seems like it.
I stole that from someone years ago, with permission.
Didn’t use it much, but it’s perfect for this. LOL
Oh great. Next thing we know, they’ll be coming around, putting gauges on people’s wells, so they can be charged for how many gallons of water they use.
They already do if you’re drawing water from the Oglala aquifer in some places.
