McCain Can Be A Genius...Romney!
self | 2/7/08 | levotb

Posted on 02/08/2008 12:04:55 AM PST by levotb

Mitt Romney has bowed out gracefully. He's the epitome of a gentleman, a real class act. Many of us will miss him, like the death of a loved one or friend, there's a void in the gut and heart that no one can fill. No one.

While some conservative sites like conservativetimes.org and alipac.us are pushing for Lou Dobbs to throw his hat in as an Independent, I came up with a brainstorm earlier today that will give John McCain The White House. It's probably not going to happen--for a VARIETY of reasons--but it IS the ONLY way that McCain will be able to "woo" enough of us conservatives to pull the lever for him in November, and make him President.

Most of us probably assumed that McCain would select Huckabee for his running mate. The reason is a strong and valid one--Huckabee can give him many Southern states. However, upon further reflection, one would have to conclude that although Huckabee would be an "asset" in the South, he would be AN ALBATROSS in the Northeast, Northern Midwest, West and parts of the Southwest! The reason is obvious: Huckabee's main support is derived from Evangelicals, mostly in the South and parts of the Midwest. The Mormons have large contingents in CA, AZ, NV, MT, MN, etc.--Romney strongholds. Even in AZ, Romney did surprisingly well against McCain head to head. Huckabee is ONLY an advantage to McCain in the South, Iowa, Missouri and Tennessee. And Huckabee has some real "negatives" with non-Evangelical conservatives with his talk about changing the Constitution to his phony anti-illegal immigration "religion" he suddenly found during the late stages of the race.

What I am obviously suggesting is "the unthinkable", but I believe McCain, jerk that he is, is a SMART pol who knows what he has to do to beat the Democrat, whoever it is. And THAT, my friends, means getting conservatives BACK into the GOP fold because many have left or are contemplating leaving soon! It would be a huge slap in Huckabee's face, but reality is reality, and McCain NEEDS the conservative votes EVERYWHERE, NOT just in the South!. If he DOESN'T make Mitt Romney his VP mate--assuming Mitt would accept--McCain stands to lose:

CA NY UT CO MT ID MN ME MI MA NV OR WA

...and possibly even Missouri, which Romney did well in on Tuesday. In fact, Romney even helps McCain in Florida where McCain did NOT do well with Republicans percentage-wise! That's a LOT of states to loose, and McCain (in a divided party) CANNOT afford to lose many of them.

So, while speaking to CPAC as he just did and other conservative orgs may help him a little, McCain is fighting a losing battle. The Dems are NOT divided over ideology as the Republican Party is--they're divided over personality and to a lesser degree, race. While big differences exist over in the GOP, there are far fewer differences between the Hillary voters and Obama voters. Therefore, it will be more likely that either Hillary or Obama will be able to mend fences and bring that monster together as "one" than it will bringing together McCain and we "balking conservatives".

How does McCain stop the bleeding and the balking? In ONE press conference, with Mitt behind him and Mitt's entire family on the stage behind him with wives making pleasantries and the like, John "Psycho" McCain will become John "the Genius" McCain. He can move "to the next level", to President in a shrewd and seemingly UNBELIEVABLE chess move that will CHECKMATE the Dems! McCain will offer a position in the Admninistration to Huckabee (which Huckabee will likely turn down) and Huckabee will, of course, have the option of running again in 2012. But in selecting Romney as VP and making a BIG thing about it, John McCain will bring BACK into the fold enough conservatives--even, possibly, me!--to win in November AND HE'LL BE CALLED "A GENIUS" FOR DOING IT!

Now, if you didn't like what I just proposed, the next idea I have is also not going to sit well with some McCainites and other centrists, particularly the country clubbing rich--the globalists who love the open borders and cheap, illegal alien labor. In my humble opinion, IN ORDER TO GET ROMNEY TO JOIN THE CAMPAIGN AS HIS VP MATE, JOHN McCAIN WILL HAVE TO AGREE TO THE FOLLOWING PUBLICLY IN THE SAME OR AT A DIFFERENT NEWS CONFERENCE:

1) State to the country that "Amnesty for illegal aliens is dead. I will NEVER allow it to happen during my term in office, I swear!"

2) State to the country: "Illegal aliens--ALL of them--MUST leave the United States in a peaceful manner. The benefits of 30 to 40 million illegal aliens leaving the U.S. will be unbelievable. Americans will once again become gainfully employed. Crime will drop dramatically. Back in their respective countries, the non-serious criminal illegals can get at the back of the line and wait to enter the U.S. legally and if they get to the FRONT of the line sometime later, they will never be allowed to bring their relatives, wives, etc. with them. 'Chain migration' is over! They will only be able to enter legally on a work or other visa and they will be required to check with ICE or DHS on a regular basis to review for any criminal record. Once back in the U.S. on a work visa, they will NOT be allowed to take jobs of American workers such as construction, Hotel and restaurant work, etc. And, most importantly, DHS will allow only a small number of (now) LEGAL aliens to enter and live in the U.S., again, WITHOUT their spouses, families, friends, etc. and as with the Bracero Program, they will have to return to their countries periodically--their actual homes. If they break BACK into the U.S. illegally again and are caught, they will be put in Fed. prison for 5 years--no exceptions and no appeals. Those caught in I.D. theft and production, human and drug smuggling will be given SEVERE prison sentences. I will ask Congress to pass stricter sentences for Fed. criminals who are caught doing and convicted of doing these outrageous things. These criminals will not simply be deported. They will serve out their sentences without appeal or plea bargaining."

3) State to the country and to Mexico and all other countries: "Henceforth, all foreign national murderers who escape to Mexico after committing their murder in the U.S. will, upon conviction of murder and other horrific acts, be automatically given the Federal death penalty. If Mexico or any other countries where these murderers have fled to refuses to catch and hand over these vicious murderers, I have instructed our plain-clothesed Federal agents to go to Mexico or whatever country, find those murderers and bring them back to face justice! I will NOT accept the extortion that has been going on by these small third world countries who refuse to hand over murderers of Americans in the U.S. because of these countries abhorrence of capitol punishment!"

4) State to the country: "As President, I am ending the insane practice of our Defense Department recruiting and hiring illegal alien gang members to absolve their criminal pasts by serving in our Armed Forces. We've been sewing the oats of our own demise by doing so and all illegals presently serving in the U.S. armed forces will be honorably discharged and deported to their countries of origin."

5) State to the nation: "I will completely revamp and streamline the USCIS. In particular, EXPEDITED REMOVAL will become the order of the day at that agency. I will tell Congress to budget the hiring of more attorneys and judges, if necessary, to hear immigration violation cases to speed up the process. Illegal aliens will NOT be able to "work the system" any longer by legal efforts on the part of their attorneys. Endless appeals will be a thing of the past."

6) State to the nation: "I will work with Congress to develop a plan to end the birthright citizenship of anchor babies. Illegal aliens who break into the U.S. and have their babies born here will be deported and their babies shall NOT be "citizens"! Ted Olsen, Kris Kobach and other legal experts will assist in such a law or challenge to the Supreme Court's previous rulings."

7) State to the nation: "Any country that assists or advises (through literature or physically assists) its citizens in breaking into the U.S. and trying to blend in with American society will be put on notice AS OUR ENEMY! Any and all such practice by other countries currently friendly to the U.S. shall stop, or there will be financial/trade consequences that will be severe. We will simply NOT tolerate such behavior by our 'friends'."

"There will be more; these are just some of the aspects of illegal immigration and the responses to it that will be my committment to the American people."

If John McCain gives such a speech to the American people, with Gov. Romney at his side, he will HAVE my vote and I believe, he will be President.

Back to reality, however. This is of course a highly unlikely scenario, but it IS "food for thought". Speaking of which, it's time to heat up some take-out I bought earlier and enjoy reading the many superb stories and ideas written by Freeper friends!

One other thing. If John McCain does even HALF of what I suggest he do above and picks Mitt Romney as his VP, I will be EXTREMELY giddy and happy, as I contend other conservatives will be. Romney will be heir-apparent to McCain if McCain decides to sit for just one term (He'll be 76 in 2012). Romney will be in a much stronger position as VP in 2012 than having to run again as an outsider. In making Romney his VP, John McCain will make a FRIEND out of a foe--and be the better for it! And the GOP will survive perhaps another 100 years.

I wonder if McCain would consider such a move.

I’ll tell you this.. Romney wants the job, that’s for damn sure.

He’s going to have a tough time going back to his constituents in Mass. and getting re-elected after his move to the right for these primaries.

He will never give such a speech.

He will never be President of the United States.

He can go to Hell. He's a traitor.

I, for one, will never vote for him. Ever.

People here have to realize the simple truth--Illegal Immigration is NOT the big issue for most voters that it is for us.

McCain will NEVER say the things you've suggested.

And a VP choice isn't going to push him over the top. VP just isn't that important in elections--people make all kinds of noise because by the time a VP is chosen they're so damned BORED with the whole process they hype up the news.

McCain needs a real conservative as his running mate. Romney and especially Huckabee are neither conservative nor would they bring in states that McCain wouldn’t already win. Face it, unless he does something incredibly stupid, McCain has the South already won. Now he just needs a conservative from a swing state.

“People here have to realize the simple truth—Illegal Immigration is NOT the big issue for most voters that it is for us.”

You’re going to get flamed, HARD, for saying that, but it’s VERY true...

At some point we have to admit that we have been marginalized as a movement by the Major Media, and that, simply put, “Schwarzeneggerism” Sells....

Single issue bomb-throwing may get ratings and internet hits, but it isn’t selling with the sheeple.

McCain is the nominee because CALIFORNIA decided he was, overwhelmingly.

The Hispanics are the new swing voting group, whether we want to admit it or not...

Romney was enormously flawed as a candidate, as indicated by the oodles of money he spent only to be beaten by a guy who a couple months ago was trailing in 5th place and struggling to break 10% in the polls. His conservative support was mostly by default after the departure of Fred Thompson and with the lack of anyone better, and limited, since many people never believed his conversion anyway.

In addition to that, he had the albatross of being the adult member of a racist church up until 1978 — nobody ever made that much of it in the primary, but it would have become a massive issue in the general. He was going to get seared for his lying too (”lifelong hunter,” “My father and I marched with Martin Luther King through the streets of Detroit”).

I expect the Veep will come from outside this year’s roster of candidates.

1) State to the country that "Amnesty for illegal aliens is dead. I will NEVER allow it to happen during my term in office, I swear!"

"No new taxes - read my lips!" is shorter and would allow him to get on to the next campaign promise that much quicker.

The man has been on one government payroll or another for 50 years. He's developed his character, personality, and tendencies during that time. To start believing campaign promises which vary from his past performance now would require a willing suspension of disbelief.

Either you vote for the guy because you like something about him, or you don't. Expecting him to change at this point is unrealistic.

Since I haven't been smoking dope, I don't have to read sh!t.

John McCain attempted to betray the United States and SMILED while he did it.

He can burn in Hell. He isn't any better than Obama or Clinton.

Romney backed out of running for re-election in 2006. His approval ratings were down around the low 40s.

Actually, by definition all alien nationals serving the United States in the military are legal immigrants as it is one very admirable way to gain citizenship (natualization). It has always been an option for foreing nationals to show their allegiance and service, plus they receive intensive civic studies. I know several French citizens (yes, French, seriously) who chose enlistment because of their sincere admiration for the US and a real desire to become citizens. I’ve also known several former Kenyans, Germans, Mexicans, Brazilians, and many many others over the years who had served with honor and natualized after they got out.

Mitt Romney will probably end up like John Edwards, unelectable to his old office so his only hope is to keep running for President.

Good points.

The problem with sites like this is that people get flamed for OBSERVING reality as if they are ADVOCATING what they're discussing.

One doesn't have to support Arnold to observe that he and McCain are what sells these days. In my book what they're selling is the Democratic Party, but you're a fool not to admit to the unpleasant truth.

People here freak out over illegal immigration, but sorry, folks, no one's going to decide who to vote for on that issue. The economy is foremost in people's minds, and you can tell them all day and night that that should not be, that the president isn't as important when it comes to a good economy as one might think, and that voters SHOULD be worried about foreign policy and border security...and they will ignore you.

What we as a party have to think about between now and election day is whether we want to win or lose THIS election--that's all. We can stay home and sulk and let the party "get its act together" and "come back" after a strategic loss (oh, that worked out SO well in 1992 and 2006, now, didn't it?), or we can work on getting conservatives in Congress and defeating the democrat, Hillary or Obama, who would get in there and choose liberals for SCOTUS and gut the military.

I can't stand McCain but I'm not going to sulk and take it out on the military--or left the SCOTUS tilt far to the left.

That is ridiculous.
Why would Romney want such a “chair sitting” job?
And why would Romney want to seek any more public office in Mass.?
Romney has better options that any of those possibilities.
