I feel moved to comment on the continuing hoopla from the conservative commentators which they are directing against John McCain. Ann Coulter has gone as far as to say she will support Hillary Clinton instead while Rush Limbaugh and others have suggested they may sit out the election if he is the nominee. Rush has even said that we are allowing the media to select our candidate just like the liberals do. Well, Rush and his allies are also the media so when conservatives were elected before was this also a case of the media selecting our candidates?
Let me address several of their issues; firstly, they are complaining that McCain is not a conservative. To this I must point out that the National Conservative Caucus has given him a lifetime grade of 83. Granted, this isn't what Reagan and G.W. Bush might have earned but it still isn't all that bad.
I also have to ask them why they didn't do more to support Fred Thompson when he was still on the campaign trail? Additionally, if they aren't happy with the slate of available candidates why then didn't they do something to find more to their liking to declare their candidacy? There simply were none available that were viable. So making such a scene of this, especially at this late date, is as silly as arguing with a stone. It is nothing more than a matter of having little to choose from.
Snip.......
"If I had the chance I would lecture them on the fact that this is the best they are going to get so they'd better make the best of it. After all, even Ronald Reagan knew when to take half a loaf when that was all he could get. To continue on this path these pundits are achieving nothing but to further alienate themselves from their listenership and to become more shrill and irritating. So unless they have a better idea I suggest they get with the program and climb aboard before the sip leaves the dock without them."

I'm deeply saddened by those posters that cannot get with the program, get with McCain. Where was or is their perfect candidate, why didn't that candidate if there ever was one surface as popular with voters? The current survey vote indicates 'none of the above' as the most popular choice......what a shame and how stupid is it to end up not backing the 'right' candidate, knowing that he can be influenced by the entire conversative group - if we band together, versus no influence if someone from the other side is elected. If it wasn't for the military connection, whose posters in the fr canteen I'm dump this site as so far to the right - it's now almost as bad as the far left and just a clueless. It's a damn shame.
Face it, conservatives don't even have a dog in this fight, but backing the best dog is an excellent bet, although no one should even consider actually participating in a dog fight at any level. Now I'm feeling silly for arguing with a stone, if fact an entire site filled with rock heads.
McCain says Clinton would make a great President. So Reach out to the other side like Maverick John McAmnesty did.
If anything, it's time the GOP took a thrashing like they did in 1976. After all, it took a loss to Carter to foment the conservative success that became the Reagan Revolution.
If we vote in a liberal RINO like McCain now, we may as well kiss goodbye every advance that Reagan made. End of story.
yeah it’s like dailykos now...it will be a while until the signal to noise ratio improves.
and reagan was perfect, right?
CALM DOWN, mah FRiend...
I am deeply saddened that you are deeply saddened.
But remember, Reagan was elected in the days before the internet and before Rush and talk radio became so big.
The “fairness doctrine” was still in effect when Reagan was elected, so the talk radio of the time couldn’t be the cheer leaders the way they can be nowadays.
Rush Limbaugh has made a real horses ass of himself. The most ridiculous is the charge that the media or GOP establishment picked the candidate. We had overa one year process, with tons of primaries and caucuses, and the front runner constantly changed. hardly the stuff of a conspiracy.
Some here think Rush supported Romney. Neat trick without saying it, when he had 3 hours a day to do so. Real profile in courage.
I heard Rush today say he is NOT telling anyone to vote against McCain, or to not vote for McCain. He is beginning to shift to calling for electing more conservative Congress. As he himself was saying, that call by Rush in 2006 didn't work.
On one hand, these guys attack the conservative commentators for undermining the GOP. On the other hand, they claim that the conservative commentators are washed up, and have no influence anymore.
Both can’t be right.
Very good. I agree.
82.3 lifetime...and sinking like a rock in recent years.
Not to mention his base, ie, the NYT, WP, David Letterman, (where he said our troops lives were wasted).
Conservatives will be fine.
Especially when McCain’s “maverick” steps up and spends the next 4 years giving him what he has given this President for his entire term.
Consistent sniper fire, to lower his poll numbers.
“and reagan was perfect, right?”
Absolutely not. Who said he was?
Yep! Fianlly ...a voice of “reason”.I was afraid all the “wing-nuts” have taken over the Freepers site.....
Yep! Finally ...a voice of “reason”.I was afraid all the “wing-nuts” have taken over the Freepers site.....
Ill Ive heard from the Republican establishment is how I have to bend over a take it like a man when it comes to pulling the lever for McCain. I will never compromise my core values to vote for a man that has shown time and time again he has none.
Just a question. . . with things as they are right now, what does happen if some unforeseen situation occurs with any of the candidates now in the race. Where does that leave the delegates that are already pledged? I’m sincerely not wishing for anything bad to happen to any of them, but I don’t know the answer.
