Canadian folk rock legend Neil Young said he has lost all hope that music can change the world, as he presented a documentary about his 2006 anti-war concert tour at the Berlin film festival on Friday.
"I know that the time when music could change the world is past. I really doubt that a single song can make a difference. It is a reality," Young told reporters.
"I don't think the tour had any impact on voters."
But the silver-haired frontman of the sixties supergroup Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young nonetheless dealt US President George W. Bush a stinging, back-handed insult and said his own "naive" urge to make people think remains intact.
"What is wrong with George Bush? That would take a really long time. Let's talk about what is right with him, it is a much shorter answer.

Finally someone admits it. Music is entertainment... and mildly entertaining at that.
Singing Kumbaya never worked BEFORE either. Only people gifted with a natural ability toward delusions or those on weighable amounts of hallucinogens ever thought it could.
Anyone can say any number of things about Neil Young, but the fact remains he is one of the longest lasting and popular musicians of our time.
I would take Youngs resume over that of Skynyrd any day.
Ive seen them both and Crazy horse flat out rocks!
Note to Neil Young....Remove head from ass.
Shame Neil is the musical version of Bobbi Fischer....in a way. At least Fischer had a good excuse.

The early 70’s were worse: we had the flipping hippies AND had red, white and blue bell bottomed jeans and smiley faces EVERYWHERE....ARGH!!
That's for sure. I don't understand how anyone could ever enjoy his whiny, nasal, off-key singing.
Sure it can. It can change semi-talented musicians into limousine liberals.
That rock concert/pep rally at Nuremberg 70 years ago got a lot of folks excited.
Yo, Neil. Constant pot smoking, LSD use and indiscriminate sex didn’t get the job done, either.
It’s funny, because even Crosby said, years ago, that his generation was naive and actually believed that smoking pot and singing would change the world. “And we couldn’t have been more wrong,” is what he said. Crosby is more mature than Young, to the n factor yet to be determined. What does this mean?
Hey Neil, Ten Years After had it figured out a long time ago.
Everywhere is freaks and hairies
Dykes and fairies, tell me where is sanity
Tax the rich, feed the poor
Till there are no rich no more?
I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you
Population keeps on breeding
Nation bleeding, still more feeding economy
Life is funny, skies are sunny
Bees make honey, who needs money, Monopoly
I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you
World pollution, there’s no solution
Institution, electrocution
Just black and white, rich or poor
Them and us, stop the war
I’d love to change the world
But I don’t know what to do
So I’ll leave it up to you
NO doubt! Even I would sound good like that. Don't forget to pierce the cones with knitting needles to get that ragged distortion.
Fogerty's just as much of a loon these days.
I cannot tell you how much, ever since I was a kid, HATED that little ditty.
He is so wrong. Some of his electric stuff made the world noisier.
Yes, as he buys classic guitars and amps. I will cut him a break for the polio and I like his earlier catalog. I saw him on the Transformer tour which was very good and VERY loud on the electric part.
Me either, though after I actually got the WORDS to Keep on Rockin' in the Free World, I have always loved it. The rest?? Ick. I have the double CD set of CCRs greatest hits...and ONE song of Neil's.
