From combined dispatches - LOS ANGELES Striking Hollywood screenwriters said yesterday they had agreed on a deal to settle their three-month-old dispute and could be back at work tomorrow if it meets with union members' approval.
Leaders of the 12,000-strong Writers Guild of America e-mailed members early yesterday to inform them an agreement with studio chiefs had been reached and would be discussed at meetings in New York and Los Angeles.
"We have a tentative deal," said WGA leaders Patric Verrone and Michael Winship, adding the time had come to settle the dispute, which has forced the cancellation of several television series and films.
"An ongoing struggle against seven multinational media conglomerates, no matter how successful, is exhausting, taking an enormous personal toll on our members and countless others. ... Continuing to strike now will not bring sufficient gains to outweigh the potential risks," they said. "The time has come to accept this contract and settle the strike."
WGA members met in Los Angeles and New York to discuss the plan, before the guild's board meets to approve the deal today.

sounds almost like "dreamers strike." I mean, what difference does it make?
Ready everyone, a big “Who cares”.
I do look forward to new episodes of “The Office”.
Too bad they settled - it just makes more shows I will continue not to watch.
what is your opinion as you posted
If you’re one of the thousands of people who drive the location trucks, prepare the food, sew the wardrobe, paint the sets, cut the hair, apply the make-up, edit the films/tv shows, choose the music, work as an accountant for a production, sell insurance to productions, work the sound or the lights or fix the cars...etc. etc.
then you might take a passing interest.
You don’t think the Arts make a difference?
Well sometimes they can be loud, like firecrackers. Other times they're silent and kind of sneak up on you.
Wait a minute, you said "Arts?" Never mind!
It seems a lot of people don’t make that distinction!
Just a buncha panty-waists who never did an honest day’s work. All they do is sit around thinking stuff up.
lol. You are kidding, right? In case you're not...
a. a leading question (not quite "putting words in my mouth." i.e. how exactly do your assertion follow from my post?).
b. define "Arts."
c. define "make a difference."
d. explain what "Hollywood" and "Arts" have in common.
e. Cite what just cause writers have or, for that matter, "Artists" have to strike.

a. Dreamers is a synonym for creative artists is it not?
b. In this case film writing
c. movies are crucial part of American culture
d. see above
e. The utility of unions is another matter.
Great. A little too late to save Friday Night Lights.
It seemed very appropriate when my wife was watching the “American Idol” tryouts.
I hate movies. I haven’t seen a movie since True Grit because they’re all crap now. Even though I haven’t seen any movies, I still know they’re crap. In fact, they’re so crappy I feel compelled to contribute to every movie thread, just so people realize how crappy they are there days.
You’re a very good mimic.
But, since you asked.........
My first reaction is that I'm glad for all the little people that work behind the scenes that are currently out of work because of the strike. This strike was not of their making and it seems that they are the ones who are suffering the most from it.
The strike has also had a serious adverse effect on the economy in the greater Los Angeles area.
As far as the possibility of new programming becoming available on the boob tube......I say great!
It can't be any worse than some of the garbage that's being flung in this forum lately.
Thanks for your thoughtful rebuttal.
